The race to win Unser Star für Kopenhagen—Germany’s national selection for Eurovision—is warming up. Back in December NDR named seven of the eight finalists. And now one of the acts—goth-rock band Unheilig—has released a snippet of its entry “Als wär’s das erste Mal”.

The band’s name means “Unholy” in English, so you’d expect their sound to be a bit raw and death metal. Yet there is something reverential and spiritual about their song, which translates as, “As if it were the first time”.  According to the band the song is about “the little wonders of life and love … that seem to be lost in our hectic world sometimes.”

The complete single will be released on March 7. What do you think? Would you be happy to hear this at Eurovision?

I love this band & I’m pleased with what I hear! The stage could look so cool with this song. It’s not too calm to put you to sleep, but it’s not a typical upbeat dance tune either. It’s something a bit different! I like.

For some reason I have a thing for German rock, and this song is no different. His voice sounds so sultry coupled with the beautiful music arrangement. If the rest of the song is this good I want them in Copenhagen with a top 10 finish.
