On 26 January France 3 unveiled the three songs vying to represent France at Eurovision 2014 on a special edition of Les Chansons d’abord. Destan were all sugary sweet with their boy ballad “Sans toi”. Joanna Lagrave dropped a lot of soul with “Ma Liberté”. And Twin Twin brought some major attitude and funk with their number “Moustache”. Now it’s time to decide who should win. C’est vous qui décidez!

Twin twin certainly doesn’t sound plagerized, copied, or even slightly modified from any of the songs it’s compared against. Sure, the style is similar, and it might share one type of noise, though the accusations are baseless IMO. It is better than what it’s compared against; it’s sure to do good, when accompanied with a good performance.
Twin Twin, but I`m sure Destan will win because they are the one direction / Auryn of France.
Joana is a nice song, but I guess France are sick of nices songs with bad results. Twin Twin is not a masterpriece, but it is different and funnny
Perhaps you should read what the professionals say about plagiarism. I find that the song is a big rip off, and a very embarrassing one too!

@Alex – wow!!! Way to cite the Danish entries as examples for your inspiration-plagiarism speech (2013, 2012 and 2010)
Wow.. I interpreted the song completely different than you Alex 😛 I got it as how much he benefits in life and having a moustache would be an added bonus, but after re-reading the lyrics again, I get where you’re coming from :’D
& ffs I meant Je veux ci je veux ça* haha
Hmm… Interestingly, this has already been accused of plagiarizing Stromae’s “Papaoutai” (see ESCToday) – indeed, the two songs have the same home key and similar rhythms. But to me they still feel totally different. Perhaps there is some inspiration, but inspiration isn’t enough to be plagiarism – just ask Denmark (“Only Teardrops” and that Dutch song, “Should’ve Known Better” and that song by Seal, “In a Moment Like This” and “Every Breath You Take”).
@Charles: Notice how I didn’t say anything about the performance – I barely noticed the dancing; I was just down with the song. I probably appreciate this more than you and some others because I understand the bulk of the French lyrics, which really ARE clever. I can understand how one might think it’s just people jumping around, but there’s more to this song than just being a dance track. My interpretation of the lyrics is that they’re sarcastically criticizing the disconnect of some (young?) privileged people who are only concerned with material things and their appearance. And they do… Read more »
@Alex yahhhhhhh Nikki :D!!! I loved that song to bits haha! I hear the resemblance. I enjoy Destan’s song and as somebody wrote, they remind me of Westlife!! I expected a bigger song from Joanna too. I’m captured by her voice though 🙂 She’s my pick along with Twin Twin. & as for lyric difficulty, I do not think it’s that bad. Twin Twin’s song is memorable and the je veux ça je veux sa bit is easy to catch onto. People will be singing that part non stop 😛 In the end, I voted Joanna on the France 3… Read more »
@Pete Dj: Thanks mate! I might be too old-school as far as music is concern, but true music quality is something I have been always sensitive to. Early years of Eurovision, even to some of the less popular songs in Eurovision, had great quality regardless their outcome. Today trying to have that quality suffers the scrutiny of ESC fans who want everything but … music that you listen to. Like I said: too much focus on visuals and gimmicks … who cares about vocals, and musical depth and meaning? Nobody cared with Sertab’s or Ruslana’s vocals … all that matters… Read more »
@Eurofan: Are a really honest music fan … or you just don’t care or are you being sarcastic? Just wondering.
1. Destan
2. Joanna
3. bad Stromae copy
moustache, so that along with cheesecake, we can start a trend of ridiculous sounding song titles.
Agree fully with Charles. spot on mate!
Ma liberte’ is a refined work of class. If she wins in France I can see it really doing well in Copenhagen. A true song with a true artist
After Amandine got thrown under the bus for being forced to sing first with a fairly up-tempo blues-rock tune, I’m thinking it may be time for a change of pace, in the event the French are forced to sing early again. Joanna’s song may be the most appropriate remedy this time around, especially when a ballad like Farid’s “Hold Me” managed to finish 2nd last year (then again, AZE almost always manages a top-10 finish). Maybe Joanna can get enough Western Euros in her corner to finish top-15, no?
@Alex: What Twin Twin is presenting, does not even show a bit whatsoever of what is being done musicallywise in France. It’s too cheesy and tries desperately to be fun … but it’s not. The only thing that I have noticed is that the main singer lent a lot of the rapping style cleverly created by hugely successful Belgian Stromae which has been #1 in France for many weeks now. But that does not justify any type of popularity hype for these guys. France is a country that likes to see music being taken seriously … if they listen to… Read more »

Three poor acts. This can’t be the French music industry… probably is just extremely low interest in participating to the ESC.
Looks like we are living in a world full of prophets. Everyone seems to know exactly how people and jury will vote. But we don’t, because we can’t really compare one year with the other. What we can talk about is what we have on record because none of us can really and scientifically predict an outcome. So what we have are three singers and three songs. Destan in the true sense of the word not fresh at all. Trying to make something of yourself by imitating a successful boyband is only destined to get them negative comments. If BLUE… Read more »
If France want good result at Eurovision 2014 , they must sent Destan, only with them France have chance to bi in from place 10 to 15.
With Joanna maybe place from 15 to 20 place in final.
With Twin Twin bottom from 20 to 26 place in final
Who cares about voice in Eurovision ? Who cares about lyrics ?
Joanna (classy) = France 15- 26th
Twin Twin (poor) = 20 – 26th
Destan (fresh in air) = 8 – 15th
Destan’s song is pretty awesome. They need to work on their enunciation (including their French enunciation!!!), but this gives me good reminders of Canada’s official song for the 2010 Olympics (“I believe” by Nikki Yanofsky) and boy bands from the late 90s to the early 00s. The guy with a big earring in his left ear needs to work on his singing, though. Either that, or his vocal style just does not fit with the rest of the group. This could flop at Eurovision, but if it’s sung better than the live performance above, it could do alright. I don’t… Read more »
Twin Twin are an embarasing act for France. I can’t even call this a song come on!
Destan, better luck next time
Joanna has a very good ballad and she has the best voice of all of them. Those people who believe in real music will no doubt vote for Joanna
Ma liberte !! http://eurovisionnowspain.blogspot.com.es/
Twin Twin wili be flop in televote and they wili be at bottom on points from juries. For me they not have good song like France song from 2010 and they have no chance to be in TOP 8 with televoters like Jessy Matador , who finished at 12 place ( 8 place with televote and 22 place from juries) . For me if Twin Twin go to Eurovisino in final they willi be in 12 to 15 place with televote and 22 to 26 with juries and they wii finish maybe from 18 to 26 place in final.
Twin Twin or Joanna are the only reasonable choices. Both have the potential to score well, Twin Twin with televoters, and Joanna with the juries, even though it’s very possible for them both to score well with the jury and televoters. Destan would be a terrible choice, they can’t even sing in the studio version, and I didn’t watch their live performance but if they sound bad on their studio version, I can only imagine how they sound live. I don’t think France will be taking Eurovision to Paris in 2015, but with Twin Twin or Joanna, they have the… Read more »
Twin Twin will get many points from televoters like Jessy Matador.
1. TWIN TWIN
2. Destan
3. Joanna
(1) #TWINTWINMOUSTACHE!! I LOVE THIS SONG.
(2) Joanna — I could live with this. It’s OK.
(3) Destan — Are you kidding me? NO.
If France want good result in Debmark they must sent Destan to Eurovision . With Twin Twin they will be finish like Spain 2008, Austria 2012 at Eurovision. Johana is not strong like Patrizia Kas to get many vote from juries and from televote she wil no get many points .
I think Joanna and Twin Twin are the best choices for France. Joanna has a beautiful song. Twin Twin has a very fun, original song. Destan…no, nein, non! It’s so generic!
Twin Twin are brilliant. They’re fun and look great on stage and have the potential to be very memorable on the Copenhagen stage. The song is catchy too and it was performed well on the show today. Doesn’t harm that Laurent is quite hot too – maybe Eurovision 2014’s Next Top Model?
