Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, the national final for Iceland, will take place on February 15. The first five songs have just been revealed and you can listen to them here—and below.

As previously reported, there are some veteran faces this year, including Vignir from Sjonni’s Friends. There are also some newcomers, who have never set foot on the “Eurovision” stage.  The variety is beyond the beyond: the first semi final will include an operatic ballad, a happy-go-lucky dance number, a Bond-esque love song, a feel good sing-a-long and an ode to an incredible woman.

Amour is a bond style very sexy sounding song. I think staging should just be her singing and shadow dancers in the background. Overall though Iceland has good quality songs and they should stay in Icelandic for Eurovision like last year. Icelandic is a mysterious sounding language (I should know I speak it)

I like Amor also out of that bunch. Buuut this bunch isn’t the strongest 🙁 Here’s better hope for the next 5!!!

And once again a very strong selection in Iceland. For quality, we can always count on Iceland as almost every year. 4 very good songs, but unfortunately also one very bad song “Amor”. I think it’s a very weak and irritating song that quickly becomes very boring. I really hope it doesn’t win because that would be a huge disappointment for me. But of course we should wait until the five other songs from the second semifinal will be released. Then we’ll see.
