Over the weekend Malta selected Firelight for Eurovision 2014 with their song “Coming Home”. The song has proven to be very divisive with our readers. Some of you have commented that it is a rip-off of Iceland’s Eurovision 2011 song of the same name and that it’s like a bad cover of Mumford & Sons. Advocates say it’s original and avoids the Eurovision cliché of upbeat euro-pop.
But how does it stack up against this year’s existing competitors? Albania, Belarus, Finland, Italy, Malta, Switzerland, and Ukraine have all revealed their songs. Of these seven acts, who is your favourite? Who has the best chance of advancing to the final, and who will be leaving Copenhagen early?
Italy’s Emma Marrone won our inaugural poll last week. But now we’ve reset the votes to zero and are starting over. Please note: Maria Yaremchuk has unveiled a new version of her song, so you’ll want to listen to it again.
You can vote for as many contestants as you like but you can only vote ONE time. This poll will close on Thursday February 13.
Contestants chosen by February 9
Albania: Hersiana Matmuja with “Zemërimi i një nate”
Belarus: Teo with “Cheesecake”
Finland: Softengine with “Something Better”
Italy: Emma Marrone with “La Mia Citta”
Malta: Firelight with “Coming Home”
Switzerland: Sebalter with “Hunter of Stars”
Ukraine: Maria Yaremchuk with “Tick-Tock”

I guess it’s pretty safe to say Italy will likely be among the bookies’ favorites this year. Maybe next year we’ll be packing our bags for Rome?
What does people find so good in Italy’s song? It is the worst song they come with since their comeback, and if it is not the worst from the rest of the countries so far is because there seems to be a lot of bad songs this year. Beside Switzerland and Albania, the others doesn’t worth a place in the final, maybe Finland is also not so bad, but neither sth magnificant.
1. Switzerland
2. Italy
3. Finland (every day I like more…)
4. Albania (her voice is beaufitul)
5. Ukaine
6. Belarus (I’m sure they will change the song)
7. Malta (h-o-r-r-i-b-l-e)
But so far, there isn’t a serious favourite song
@Keith, oh, sure, azers are now busy negotiating with swedes(or greeks?) about the prices of entire production (asalways) for their 2014 entry.
Pathetic people.
Is it just me, or does it seem none of these songs will make the top ten, or even the final. Need to start seeing some magic happen besides Azerbaijan pulling out a hit.

I like how Malta is sending something more alternative this year, but the song just isn’t good. It honestly sounds like a blatant copy of “I Will Wait”, a song that I can not stand. I really like indie music and indie folk, as that’s probably my favourite music genre, but I just don’t particularly like this song. I was excited to have a good dance-pop song from Malta this year but oh well.
My favourite so far is Malta. It reminds me of Mumford and Sons but it is a nice break from all the brutal songs this year. I am also focusing a lot on the Irish National Final and let me tell you something, I really think that the song Heartbeat by Can-Linn and Casey Smith is excellent and with outstanding choreography, stage presence and a running order placing of roughly 16th to 19th it could actually be Eurovision Song Contest Dublin 2015.
Romanias Miracle and Breathe are miles better than all of these :))
NONE, albania its okish, still noooooooo , none
Everyone are horrible. Please god, I hope I haven’t heard any top 15 song so far.
@Tony Tell me about it. They should just concentrate all their efforts on Turkeyvision or whatever that crap is called and leave Eurovision for good. I will not miss the dolled up, patriotic contestants “created” for eurovision (i.e. Aysel, Safura, Farid) and the ordinary pop songs bought from Sweden and Greece.
Why Italy is bad? Because she prefers awful performances and song is incorrect. Albania is my favorite now.
Malta very good from italy
Albania and Finland are still my top songs. Waiting for Hungary and Sweden to amaze me.
It would be cool if Armenia wins so Azerbaijan goes away at least for a year XD, but that’s unlikely
Albania and Italy 🙂
My ratings:
1. Albania 80%
2. Ukraine 60%
3. Finland 55%
4. Belarus 50%
5. Switzerland 50%
6. Italy 45%
7. Malta 30%
Quality of my ratings is very high.
Finland by far!!!
Can’t wait to see what Armenia has to bring this year. Would love to go to Yerevan in 2015.
