This evening, Michael James Down, one of the members of the team behind Boris Covali’s Eurovision bid “Flying”, shared a message announcing the withdrawal of their song from Moldova’s national selection O melodie pentru Europa.

According Down’s message posted on Facebook, “Flying”, which was widely regarded by the fans as one of the favourites to win the Moldovan selection, was withdrawn by the singer’s manager without permission of the writers and replaced by “Perfect Day”, Boris Covali’s other song in the selection.

The song “Flying” […] was a cooperation between us, the songwriters, and the singer Boris Covali. Boris’s manager also made him record and submit another song, “Perfect Day” written by Brandon Stone. However, Boris made it clear that it was still “Flying” that he wished to perform and hoped would make it through.

However, a few days ago we were informed that Boris’s manager had decided to withdraw “Flying” and replace it with “Perfect day”. Even though it shouldn’t be up to him to make such a decision. We were also informed through Boris that there had been “financial agreements” between his management, the people behind “Perfect Day”, and TRM… It seems “Flying” had simply become a too dangerous competitor, or perhaps it didn’t fit in with other agreements that were being made in favour of promoting “Perfect Day”.

The plot thickens… “Financial agreements”? Okay, it’s Moldova and a national selection without a scandal is unheard of there, but what about the fact that “Perfect Day” was not selected for the semi-finals after the live auditions?

The team behind “Flying” is considering taking legal action at the moment. Meanwhile, TRM is keeping tight-lipped about the whole thing. There is no official confirmation from their part that “Flying” was withdrawn and replaced with “Perfect Day”.

Here is Boris Covali’s other song:

What do you think about the whole debacle? And which song is your favourite between the two, “Flying” or “Perfect Day”?

@Arianna: I am indeed not much a fan of Oikotimes – those guys have some really rude reporting. But I believed this particular story only because it’s Moldova, haha. I also think the way the story is written is hilarious.

Just imagine if he hadn’t entered “Flying” at all.
— “Oh, my song was disqualified, but I’ve decided to stay in the contest anyway.”
Maybe the other disqualifed acts should decide to stay as well.

Flying would have a major chance. As for Perfect Day, it will need to rely on the jury–so it will be impossible to do anything decent. Would really like some more info why this change occurred.

Neither of them are amazing, but “Flying” is probably better. I’m definitely rooting for “Vis” in Moldova. The beginning of “Perfect Day” actually reminds me a little bit of “Kuula” from two years ago.

Oh, man, Moldova. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any funnier… First the 61-song live audition round, and now this? Keep in mind that this is the same guy who complained about the jury vote when he got 2nd place last year, at least according to Oikotimes. See oikotimes.com/2013/03/18/negative-reactions-for-the-jury-results/ To quote the funniest parts of that story: “Boris Covali publicly asked Tatiana Cerga, why did she gave him only two points if he performed better then some artists to whom she gave better grades. On that she answered that in her opinion he didn’t deserve any more than those… Read more »

That’s really saddening. Flying was a better contender. Perfect Day is not bad, has its special bits, but is weaker. I hope this turns out not to be true & that Flying still stands a chance.
