Oscar Zia with his song “Yes We Can” and Ace Wilder with her song “Busy Doin’ Nothin” have won the third semi-final of Melodifestivalen 2014 and will pass straight to the Grand Final on 8th March. Falling just short of champagne, flowers and confetti were Outtrigger  with their song “Echo” and State Of Drama with their song “All We Are”, who will instead advance to Andra Chansen, where on the 1st of March they will compete alongside Helena Paparizou, Linus Svenning, Jem and Martin Stenmarck for the two coveted spots in the final.

Qualifiers

Oscar Zia – “Yes We Can”

Oscar Zia – “Yes We Can”Eric Saade’s baby brother from another mother was first out of the gates and bound straight for the final. One Direction tinged bouncy “Yes We Can” wowed voters and will provide a noted contrast from the heavyweight power ballads already making up the Final. He also got overwhelmed and missed some lines in his reprise which was ADORABLE.

Ace Wilder – “Busy Doin’ Nothin”

Ace Wilder – “Busy Doin’ Nothin”

Ace Wilder made a shock qualification direct to her final with genre-jumping track ‘Busy Doing Nothing’. With as ice cool a persona as her icy dip-dyed locks she dominated the stage and definitely provided a slick contrast to Oscar’s up tempo pop. She might have been “stressing over nothing,” when she was on stage but you could tell it meant the world from her gleeful expression on victory.

Andra Chansen

Outtrigger – “Echo”
Outtriger - Echo The Hannibalesque rock performance backfired to an extent since favourites for direct qualification Outtrigger had to settle for a spot in AC. The screamer intro is off-putting but the song grows after that. They might well be too divisive to triumph in AC though.

State of Drama – “All We Are”

State of Drama - All We Are

The second rocky group of the night, State of Drama’s larger than life stage presence has seen them make it into AC. Although the Final isn’t within their grasp yet they’re song has a broader appeal than Outtrigger and the wackiness of the piece might just swing it for them.

Eliminated

Unfortunately leaving as foul a taste as herring in our mouths were the four acts who failed to make it to Andra Chansen or the final:

5. Dr.Alban & Jessica Folcker – “Around The World”

6. Shirley Clamp – “Burning Alive”

7. CajsaStina Åkerström – “En enkel sång”
A Simple Song” – CajsaStina Åkerström
8. EKO – “Red”
EKO with 'Red'

With Oscar Zia and Ace Wilder joining YOHIO, Ellen Benediktson, Sanna Nielsen and Panetoz in the final competition is really heating up in Sweden!

Who’s your favourite finalist and who do you think was robbed of place at Andra Chansen?

I love the two finalists but I could deal without Outtrigger in Andra Chansen I’d rather have Shirley Clamp. I think this was the best show so far meaning it was very hard to decide who was going to the Final. Lycka Till Oscar Zia, Ace Wilder, Ellen Benediktson och Sanna Nielsen.

Well it was generally a nice semifinal with many different kinds of songs. No song for me was dreadful or even ugly. Shirley Clamp was the best of the night for me! EKO were also robbed! 6th and 8th place respectively for these songs wasn’t not even close to enough! Happy seeing Ace making it (even though she seems abnoxious) cause her song is really fresh! Outtriger were cool, deserved the AC. Dr Alban and Jessika Folker were also nice, and so were State Of Drama. Really don’t understand the big buzz about Oscar though. His song is generic pop.… Read more »

Zia is poppy schagler at its worst.

But Ace’s song is surprisingly modern and catchy. THe lyrics are kinda iffy, but it’s a great song.

Outrigger should’ve gone through. We need more flavor at the final.

I guess at this stage something has been proved: ONE favourite wins one sort of underdogs also wins. Oscar was more than obvious he would go to the final, regardless the quality of the song. The kid is too damn popular right now amongst teenagers that like Yohio last year the same pattern of popularity is repeated here. As for Ace … a Swedish version of an Avril Lavigne doing an Icona Pop reject? It worked … though I couldn’t care for this. Again younger audiences went for it as much as they went for Oscar, so at the end… Read more »

While this is my least favourite semi-final of MF this year, I’m over the moon that Ace Wilder made it to the final.

Am I the only one who’s tired of Dhani’s coments? God.
Anyway, glad to see Oscar in the final. Ace was a big surprise! her song is catchy as hell, but I would have loved to see State of Drama in the finals tho.
My favs overall at the moment are Oscar, Yohio and Ace. Let’s see what happens next saturday.

Dhani, just admit that you are Greek for God’s sake! Nobody believes that you’re Danish.

Very happy to see Ace advancing to the final! Outtrigger should have qualified instead of Oscar.

Well, Sweden…Sweden…Sweden…

You might fix your webplayer a little bit.

As for the show – the youngsters won! The teenagers won! Their bills will be skyrocketing. 🙂

Sha…la…la…la is stuck in my mind though.

Happy to see that Sweden loves sugary pop. Once again. NOT.

It seems like there’s a recurring pattern this year. A favourite and an underdog qualify to the final each time. Semi One: Favourite – Yohio Underdog – Ellen Semi Two: Favourite – Sanna Underdog – Panetoz Semi Three: Favourite – Oscar Underdog – Ace Then the other favourite ends up in the second chance round. Could this mean that Anton doesn’t have as good of a chance as we thought? Well anyways, I’m absolutely ecstatic Ace made it. Her song was amazing and I wasn’t super confident about it. I would be happy with either her or Ellen winning in… Read more »
