In the 15 hours since Ruth Lorenzo won Mira quién va a Eurovisión, y’all have been blowing up the comments section on our news report. Some of you are totes excited to see Miss Lorenzo dance in the rain in Copenhagen, while others are calling her selection a major mistake. A few hundred of you have even signed a petition on change.org calling on Ruth to be replaced. The haters claim that Ruth’s victory was the result of biased coverage by RTVE, pointing out that Brequette was the winner of several fan polls and the favourite of music critics. Her win, the petition suggests, was a fix by the PR teams behind the show…

Perhaps reading the Dancing in the Rain lyrics will calm you down and help you appreciate her song a bit more? Given all the hate flying Ruth’s way, it’ll take some perseverance (and time away from the blogs…) to keep her dancing. But if she believes what she sings, it shouldn’t be too much of a challenge. As we all know, Ruth loves a good fight: “Keep on like it’s never ending/ Keep on ’til the light of day/ Keep on dancing in the rain/ The rain, the rain.”

What do you think of Ruth’s song? Why are people hating? And should the BBC ask Brequette to sing for the UK?

Dancing in the Rain lyric video

http://youtu.be/6YOwh2eqteU

Luz, yo quiero ver luz
Poder pintar de color un nuevo amanecer
Vivir, amar,
Sentir y saber que
Hoy, puede que no salga el sol
Y aunque llueva
Tú y yo sabremos bailar
Nadie nos puede parar

We’re dancing in the rain
Dancing in the rain
Keep on like it’s never ending
Keep on ’til the light of day
Keep on dancing in the rain
The rain, the rain

Deja caer, deja la lluvia caer
The rain, the rain, the rain

Vive, simplemente vive
No tengas miedo

Somos el ritmo de un corazón

Latimos al ritmo de un corazón

We’re dancing in the rain
Dancing in the rain
Keep on like it’s never ending
Keep on ’til the light of day
Keep on dancing in the rain
The rain, the rain

Deja caer, deja la lluvia caer
The rain, the rain, the rain
Deja caer, deja la lluvia caer
The rain, the rain, the rain

The rain, the rain
Dancing, dancing, dancing…

Dancing in the rain
Aunque llueva y nos mojemos
No pararemos de bailar
Keep on dancing in the rain
The rain, the rain

This week in Spain (official music list, PROMUSICAE)

7# Ruth Lorenzo
8# Brequette

They are always very close

——————————————

Eloy it is very easy :

The jury is formed by 3 persons, but the 50% is THE JURY (all of them)

Also the public vote is formed by more persons (thousands!), and THE PUBLIC VOTE it is only 50%. Not 100000000% XD.

I don’t believe you can’t understand the concept 50% jury / 50% public vote o_O

Really? or just trolling??

Anyway, it is boring discuss again and again the same. For me it is over. Enjoy ESC 2014.

I like Brequette but she has no artistic on stage presence. Static and without harmony with this song, not beyond the camera. Fantastic singing “At last” in “The voice” for example but Ruth goes beyond camera and comes with his presence and his voice.

@Anonymous
Is he as bad as you at spelling?
Your math, like that of your nephew, makes no sense since the jury’s total score was supposed to represent 50% not 25% per judge (with 3 judges that would be 75%). But it wasn’t, it was 50% .The televote TOTAL was supposed to represent 50% but they multiplied the TOTAL by 3 which makes it 150%…

Yes, there were a few racist comments on Twitter, but on the whole I feel that Ruth simply had more impact on the night in performance, and that won the public over. Brequette still came second with the public, and we don’t know the exact voting figures, but before she won, I had a feeling that she would. I think that Everyone should accept that sometimes at Eurovision fan favourites lose out. It’s happened year after year…especially in Spain! – remember Coral? she lost twice with a fan fave song. It happens. Everyone get over it. It’s done.

Eloy I see you’re not goog in maths.

They multiplied the televoted x3 because then it would have been 75% Jury.
Even my 3 years old nephew gets it.

There are two things I wanted to comment on: 1) I absolutely see why people would think that Brequette should have won. Yeah in a sense, her song sounded a bit more international (like something you would hear on American radio–where I’m from). But perhaps the reason why the public voted for Ruth was because her song was a bit more Spanish/more Spanish was used in the song. (And before I hear it…RACE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS RESULT!!–and this is coming from a black man who’s lived in Spain a few times) So having said that, I think… Read more »

What do you say Eloy??? Another Brequette fan?? The rules were clear: 50% JURY Mónica Naranjo: 12 (Brequette) 10 (Ruth) 8 (Jorge) 7 (Raúl) 6 (La Dama) David Bustamante: = Merche: = Jury results: 12 + 12 + 12 = 36 (Brequette) 10 + 10 + 10 = 30 (Ruth) 8 + 8 + 8 = 24 (Jorge) 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 (Raúl) 6 + 6 + 6 = 18 (La Dama) ———————————————— 50% PUBLIC VOTE Public results: 36 -> Ruth 30 -> Brequette 24 -> Jorge 21 -> Raúl 18 -> La Dama ————————————— JURY +… Read more »

RTVE stipulated that the judges’ vote would represent 50% of the overall score and that the televote would represent the other 50%.
By multiplying by three the televote, people are arguing that this resulted in 25% judges 75% public.

Eloy

I think what a lot of people are complaining about, regarding the televoting, is that they came up with this weird idea that they would multiply the televote by three, the excuse being that there were three judges on the panel. If they hadn’t done that (multiplied by three) Brequette would have won with an overall score superior to Ruth’s since all three judges gave Brequette 12 points, therefore there would not have been a tie with Ruth winning thanks to the public’s vote being multiplied by three.
That’s why people are miffed…

To all those Ruth Lorenzo haters grow up !! I will agree that the recorded version of Brequette’s song “Run” sounds fantastic on the radio, online etc, but the fact is this is EUROVISION. The team behind Ruth got it completely right, good staging immaculate dress/appearance great singer and a good song and it was that overall package that gave Ruth the victory. Unfortunately for Brequette she maybe had a good song but the overall staging and presentation in my opionion was one of the worst of the night with not much thought to her presentation or staging.

Why are some europeans talking about racism in Spain? Spaniards love foreigners to settle down in the country and enjoy socializing with people from abroad. North and central Europe are the areas with a problem to accept strangers.
This is a song festival, not a parlament for right wing idiots.

Brequette was the winner of the jury and the runner up (out of five) by the public vote, she didn’t win because more people prefer Ruth’s voice. It’s all.

The suggestion of the UK picking Brequette up is a silly one in my mind, because yes the song is good and so is she but it’d be like saying to the rest of Europe “Our music culture and industry is terrible so we had to steal an artist from yours”. It would most definately be the last nail in the coffin of the BBC’s eurovision career, europe would think we care even less about the contest than we do already. Not that I’m saying that we shouldn’t be represented by foreigners, I don’t mind that and especially if said… Read more »

This petition is a joke because it would be embarrassing for the Spanish public. Spain is currently the best of the 12/13 state contestants. You are not grateful. See some state that is not better than Spain. Shame for you… It could be Eurovision 2015 in Barcelona or Canary Island (Spain)

NaziSpain 🙁

A civilized country, unlike Spain, would pick Brequette to sing for them in ESC. Portugal isn’t that example of civilized place but should do it, she’s much much better than the trash they send year after year and as a bonus they will do a amazing kick ass on NaziSpain.

This is so ridiculous. I love Ruth Lorenzo and her song much more than Brequette’s “Run”. It may be a matter of opinions, or maybe I’m out of my mind but Brequette’s performance was not that convincing, unlike Ms. Lorenzo’s.

“Dancing in the Rain” won fair and square and that’s it!

That petition is pure BS. You cannot cancel the result of televoting, it was 100% fair.

Personally, i love Brequette’s song because it’s modern and catchy, even though the live performance wasn’t as great as i expected. Ruth’s song is dated, disney-like and cheesy, it won’t end up high, probably have the same fate as Austria in 2011 (saved by juries, flop in televoting). I wish the best of luck to Spain and Ruth!!

Of course this petition can’t do anything. As much as I am not happy to say it, miss Lorenzo won fair and square. Nevertheless, I’m so dissapointed that Spain lost a chance of a lifetime. I found Brequette’s performance yesterday amazing. She was emotional and had a great voice. The only thing that I didn’t like was her high heels. But who gives a [bleep] about the heels when the lady has a killing song? She was enormous and for me if it went to eurovision it would be my fave not only from all the spanish entries, but maybe… Read more »

She may be offkey during the performance (which is true btw), she might improve in denmark!!! Let’s just wait!!! But to me, i lost my faith in Spain anymore!!!! Just good luck to you guys in Spain!!! Hopefully you decided well!!! (Still gutted Brequette did not win!!!)

Brequette was denied by spanish televoting, or RTE, whatever, just because of the color of her skin, I’m sure about that. Racist spanish population who still thinks they are a superior race never will let a black and foreign singer, “la negra”, as many people refered to her on internet, represent their country in a contest like ESC. Absolutely disgusting behaviour, I hope this non-talented Ruth Lorenzo will be a big flop with her superficial song. Brequette was their chance to finnaly win the ESC but they fckd up.

@Mex: Juding people due to their weight, hair and glasses? How musical that is.
@josepe: Everybody was dancing Ruslana’s Wild shit … and nobody seemed to care.
@Z24: After 17 years of televoting, nobody really knows what Europe likes in Eurovision … all we know is that ESC fans go drama queens when their slice of chocolate cake gets ignored, a huge slice of apple pie get chosen instead. Pretty much like it happened when we were all children 🙂

Well, there’s nothing we can do now. Spanish people decided for this song so let them face yet again the, now common, feeling of being in the bottom five. To all of you who are saying that Ruth’s performance was perfect that is NOT true. She was off time at the beggining (first refrain), didn’t reach some notes and was screaming -not singing- in the end of her performance. Brequette didn’t have a great performance as well but was so much emotional and the song, the thing that really mattered, was 100x times better! Good luck Spain because now you… Read more »

Lithuania 2011 comes on my mind.

Actually:

2013 – Russia, Moldova, Israel, Ukraine
2012 – Finland, Slovenia, Spain, Azerbaijan
2011 – San Marino, Lithuania, Austria,
2010 – Portugal, Azerbaijan, Georgia

So, nothing new here. Even depressing when you remember how Israel 2013 looked like.

Spanish people – you HAVE TO grow up. It’s not like someone decided instead of viewers – some wanted Brequette, some – Ruth, some voted for the other guys. Petition? Voting spoke for itself – Ruth won in televoting. Spain is my personal favourite right now, I will vote for Ruth because it’s a powerful pop ballad and Eurovision need such music. Brequette was marvellous as well and I would not mind if she won, but… I doubt she would get to top 10 – she did not perform well enough yesterday and I am not sure if she would… Read more »

The recent years have shown that Eurovision is not just about songs. It’s about how you deliver the songs live. If Ruth had performed Dancing in the rain like that anywhere in the world she would have won! Everything about Spain this year is perfection: the artist, the song, everything. If it’s not Barcelona 2015 it’d better be Yerevan 2015!
