A special episode of “Les Chansons D’Abord” took place today, during which France 3 announced which of the 3 candidates had won the right to represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest this year. Natasha St. Pier, who represented the country in 2001, hosted the show.

Sadly, it turned out to be a damp squib. There were no live performances from Destan, Joanna or Twin Twin. And so, after countless performances from all of today’s special guests, the result confirmed towards the end of the show that Twin Twin will fly the flag for France at Copenhagen.

On the plus side, Wiwi readers were correct all along as 51.42% of you voted for “Moustache” in our poll. Twin Twin were also the favourite of our jury.

@Charles – It was indeed a very unusual selection. They allowed voting to continue online for three weeks to a month before closing the polls. Pretty bizarre. I don’t know, having lived in Paris I could at the least see young Parisians getting excited about Moustache. Destan had a dated style, and I think Joanna’s chorus hurt her.

In any case, France can’t get much more disinterested than last year, when most people were paying attention to a different music show that night.

At least, they will liven up the stage. It’s better than any other song selected so far.

@Alex: I’d like to honestly know how many televoters in France did cast a vote for all three entries … the way things got mentioned by Natasha St-Pier was just awkward … the name of the entry and its performers was said and that was it … I seriously doubt the French public bothered to listen and vote massively on any of these 3 songs. France lost interest in Eurovision a long time ago, a love-hate relationship that began early in the 80s and got even worsened with their loss against Sweden in 1991 … Believing that the selection of… Read more »

Still loving Sognu, Echo (You and i), and L’enfer et moi (no matter how bad they were ranked).
Too many good entries fail to represent their country.

Smart on France to choose Twin Twin. I’m happy with the result 🙂

We’ll see how well the juries like it. You never know. The juries ranked Jedward, of all people, 6th in 2011, so it’s not like they’re totally averse to quirky songs that are performed well.

I love it! It’s a fun song that will put France back in the spotlight.

Be objective guys. France will get a lot of points from televoting this year, just like they did with Allez Ole Ola in 2010. The song will be popular among the viewers but i expect juries to snub it but you never know. this year is not promising

@Dhani: In your words, Helena Paparizou is a rubbish singer … great, one needs balls to admit that! Yet you love her … the same way people love to spend money to go and see Britney Spears playback every night in Las Vegas. Applause, applause, applause! 🙂

@Charles, if you want artistic big masterpieces, don’t look for it in Eurovision. Eurovision always has a lot of rubbish so you will only get disappointed if that’s what you expect.

Decent, while the other two songs were boring. Mid-table result, I think.

Wonderful … 2014 is proven to be the one of the worst set of songs since 2008 … we’re back to the televoting days where music was complete rubbish and nobody cared about it … everybody just wants another crappy reason to have fun and maybe drink another glass … and Moustache is now joining that party. So far I only have 3 favourites songs … this is just great. Eurovision at its best in being the worst.
