It was an unforgetable night that featured Greeks in kilts and Greek Eurovision legends like Kalomira. But despite all the amazing guest performances and three costume changes from one of the hosts, it’s Freaky Fortune that fans will remember the longest. That’s right, people: Greece has decided. Freaky Fortune feat. Riskykidd are bound for Copenhagen with their song “Rise Up”.

Surely it wasn’t a surprise for them, as their song has been the favourite to win in virtually every poll published in the run-up to the contest—including ours. They will spend the next 2 months preparing for the second semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest and we wish them all the luck in the world. We hope they’ll follow the simple advice that Kalomira gave them ahead of their performance. She told them to be themselves. Given their panache and pizzazz and likeability, the simplest advice may prove to be the best.

Here’s their performance during the national selection.

Do you agree with both the jury and the televoters, or would you prefer somebody else to fly to Copehagen on behalf of Greece? Let us know in the comments box below!

DO YOU THINK THE LYRICS ARE EASY?DON’T THINK SO.TRY TO SING IT. INTRO RAP I feel like rising up to the sky like I am a dove, I’m in love with this feeling… am I down or am I up? I can’t frown cause I am in luck, I’ve got the crowd and that’s enough… I’m in love. Couple Come on and rise up rise up to the sky, Come on and rise up get up and lose your mind, Loosen up your feet and fly, Get off the ground tonight. Refrain Come on and rise up jump out of… Read more »

Great choice for Greece – bonafide club music for once! 🙂 We’ll see what the jury does to this one, but in the meantime I’m enjoying it. (Even if the jury really hates it, good luck overcoming the Greek diaspora voting…)

By the way, if you’re concerned about the live performance – I’m pretty sure I read somewhere (on this site!) that the singer had the flu leading up to the national final. If this is how he performs when he’s just recovered/recovering from the flu then this’ll probably sound pretty good in Copenhagen.

The lyrics could be easier?

First year that I don’t like Greece :s.

And this time CYPRUS is not with 12 points for them… Maybe they will be “Serbia 2013” out of the final.

And there it is the dance tune everybody wanted in Eurovision … and coming from Greece .. who else … Greece takes its role as the “joker” of Eurovision really seriously and that is how with awful cheesy entries they reach their top 10 … and this is another one … because it’s how it’s meant to be … The tune for all European gay clubs is finally here … while I’m more focused on seeing what Belgium and Norway have in store hopefully something with less “panache and pizzazz”, more lyrics that just a repetitive and vulgar phrasal verb… Read more »

It will be interesting to see how they will cope without autotuning. Either way, this will just appeal to viewers who are looking for something to like that is inoffensively modern – but it’s nothing new to what I can hear if I search for the right radio station. Best of luck to them.

12 Points by far 🙂
Abig bravo also to the whole Euro Song Show an especially to the incredible No 1 Greek/Intl singer ‘Despina Vandi’ as hostess.

The entire show looked like it was filmed in a dungeon (or an underground basement).
As for the Freaky show, there’s no connection between wanting to sound fresh, clubby, upbeat and hip with a Balkan beat to actually delivering a song that has any merits. As far as this one is concerned, it rises up for about 45 seconds like it should, but then it painfully shrivels for over 2 minutes. However, this is the age where we want everything fast with instant gratification, so this will do extremely well on the night that counts.

Absolute yes.

For once Greece sets the traditional to the side and serves us amazing house music. THis is not the typical ESC dance, this is the real international-appealing deal. Well done Hellas

I’m pleasantly surprised. They were my second choice and I was almost positive Kostas would win. This is definitely a step up from previous years and I see it going far.
