Donatan & Cleo have released the Eurovision version of their song “My Slowianie”. Now known as “We are Slavic”, the number has been shortened to conform with the three-minute rule. The number still opens with exuberant clapping. Then Cleo launches into the Polish lyrics. After two minutes she switches to English with the lyrics, “The special thing we have in our genes, makes us proud of our natural shape…”

What do you think of the reworked Polish-English version? Are you pleased that they kept two minutes of the song in Polish rather than going straight-up English? Let us know in the comments box below!

Here’s the spliced together version of their Polish and English-language videos:

And here’s the original version of “My Slowianie” in case you want to compare.

This will do well because (and I don’t mean this offensively!) there are a LOT of polish people living abroad from their home country. I live in the UK, and there are SOOOO many polish people here, so I think Poland will get at least 6 points from the UK for that reason.

Donatan should have re-arranged the whole song… Here’s how I would have done it: 1. Have the accordion instrumental at the beginning of the song — but it should be revamped in a way to introduce the first chorus. 2. Have the original beginning of the song (I.E. “Cleo! Donatan!”) — but it should be revamped in a way to follow the accordion instrumental. 3. Have the first chorus in English. 4. Have the first, second and third verse in Polish. 5. Have the second chorus in Polish 6. Have the final chorus in English. I know it sounds messy,… Read more »

I like the ‘Moja Stikla’ abbreviated intro, but I’m afraid a lot is lost in translation between the original clip and what the actual performance will sound and look like. It is just too one-dimensional for me without a sufficient melodic progression. The attitude, the humor, the accordion and the ‘Riverdance’ beat can’t overcompensate for that, but usually when a country is absent for 2 years and higher, it gets an overwhelmingly good result upon its return (Greece 2001, Israel 1998, Italy 1997, Hungary 2005 are just a few examples)

They want to get many points from these song from slavic countries at contest. But in contest more slavic countries are ortodox (Russia,Belarus,Ukraine, Macedonia,Montenegro)and only Poland and Slovenia are catholic Do you remember Balkan girls from Romania, they not get many points from Balkan countries becase most balkan countries is slavic, and Romania is roman

I don t think so that Poladn wili get many points from Belarus. I think points from Poland in semi final UK 8 points, Ireland 6 points, Germany 8 points, Lithuania 10 points , Belarus 5 points, Slovenia 2 , Macedonia 2
They wili get maximum 45 points in semi .

I think Poland still have a great chance of, at least, qualifying. Poland is quite advantaged with neighbour and diaspora votes in the 2nd semi final; U.K, Ireland, Germany, Belarus, Lithuania.

They should’ve gone with English first, not Polish. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of viewers stopped paying attention after the first minute because they didn’t know what was going on. So it feels like they’re dooming themselves with this cut.

But who knows, it might still get changed by the time the contest comes (like Glorious was…)

Polish, English or Japanese… pause or no pause, I love this song! It’s an extremely smart move, and very timely in a year of so much “universal love” and international appeals by wolves in sheep’s clothing, if you know what I mean 😉

The pauses are what give the Eurovision version even more momentum and I love them.

Seems feasible enough, song contest-wise. But what is with the short pause before the chorus? Hope this does not become the official version of this song per se because many of us are accustomed to the original Polish version.

I would’ve preferred all Polish like many people but I think adding English is a smart idea. The people who aren’t Eurovision obsessors like us probably would rather a song they can understand and since this song has a very distinct message, it’s good that now most people will be able to understand what it’s about. Anyways, I’m extremely happy they didn’t go with all English and I hope my #6 song this year makes it to the finals, like Poland deserves.

The transitions between verse and chorus sounds a little awkward, but apart from that they did a pretty good job with it. Still my no.1

What’s all the hype about this?? really? I mean if Magdalena didn’t qualify you think this will? It sounds like one of those crappy songs I switch as soon as it comes on. Just hideous. I’m very disappointed in Poland.

my number one this year. But I’m sure it won’t qualify because of the juries.

I love that they went for a bilingual route, the best of both worlds! However the new edit doesn’t flow the same with the added pauses, maybe because I’m so used to the old version?

Original version better, however this way lets more people understand why us Slavic girls should be proud and better for competetion. Polska power!!!!

I would have preferred all Polish, but I guess it’ll come down to the staging to make a less awkward transition between verses

I really don’t like how its done bilingually. Unlike Slovenia’s bilingual entry, it’s basically first half Polish and the second half English.
