There is no denying that this year’s contest will be awesome. So will the Eurovision 2014 postcards, which we had the chance to see during the press day at Eurovision in Concert. Now we’re happy to share a video that has emerged on YouTube of DR presenting the postcards at that event. In the video you can watch postcards from Austria, Finland and The Netherlands.

As every Eurovision fan knows, the postcards are the 30-second clips shown right before each artist performs his entry. They give commentators around Europe enough time to introduce the song, and give the artists a chance to take a final breath after taking the stage.

As in Sweden the postcards offer us a glimpse into the lives of the contestants, but they are more colorful and vibrant than last year…even if the quality of this video dampens all the colour!

In Austria’s we see Conchita pushing a rack of red and white dresses through the snow to the Opera House. She arranges them and they eventually form the Austrian flag.

In The Netherlands, the Common Linnets pick some red, white and blue tulips and form the flag on a boat. Softengine pick up some ice right from the cold sea and build Finland‘s flag. It’s great!

I loved everything about the Malmo edition. Petra was brilliant, I followed the producers with their daily ups and downs regarding the production, the ideas overall.

I just wish Sweden to win again, even though I have another favorite, just for that – the brilliance of the show. Danes went the other way. They could have easily made it in the middle of Denmark, but they chose to be “kitschy spectacular”. Oh…

Somehow.. It sorta connects with 2008 and 2013.. It looks quite impressive for this years postcards. I wonder that the UK Flag will be like or maybe even the irish flag? How knows we’ll have to find out on may 6th/8th/10th to find out.

@Med The Swedish ESC was the best in years partly for that reason (the other reason being Petra Mede). Smaller city, smaller stage, only having one host, etc., made the contest seem like the rest of Europe outside of Paris and London and the other huge metropolitan cities: rather quaint and cozy, rather than a huge ordeal. Petra made that edition sparkle. I hate having three hosts, it makes the intervals between acts confusing, crowded, and long. This is something that the idea of “more is better” does not work for. The Azerbaijani statues can show you enough proof. Petra… Read more »

Many eurovision fans are prudish and dull. I think of Eurovision 24 hours a day. This is my prediction of final:
1. Russia
2. Ukraine
3. Estonia
4. Finland
5. Ireland
6. Denmark
7. Azerbaijan
8. Romania
9. United Kingdom
10. Armenia?

I have a feeling that this year’s ESC is really unoriginal. I don’t know why. The stage looks like the one in Moscow (like singing inside a big TV screen) + mixed with the one in Baku. I don’t like it. These postcards are fine, but they aren’t nothing WOW. Just OK. The last time Denmark made the ESC, they went into a football stadium and made the work completely bad. Now, they are going into a shipyard and one extremely big hangar! I like how the Swedes made it small, charming and relevant. Let them win again, just for… Read more »

yesterday i watched a video with the stage in action to poland’s stand-in rehearsal and i don’t think i have ever seen a more beautiful stage. It’s as least as good as Düsseldorf in 2011!!

It’s a great idea to form the countries flags out of different objects this year.
