Sanna Nielsen and Aram MP3 both took to the stage tonight for the first semi-final, and the bookies clearly preferred the 29-year-old blonde bombshell to the Armenian comedian. That’s right people: Sweden has suddenly surged into 1st place across betting agencies and is the new favourite to win.

Sanna’s odds to win are now at around 2:1, while Aram MP3 is in second with odds between 2 and 3.5:1.

Molly from the UK was stellar in her rehearsal the other day and her odds have continued to narrow, with her now in 3rd at 7:1. Kallay-Saunders from Hungary has taken over Ukraine for 4th with odds between 8 and 10:1, and the Netherlands has suddenly surged into 6th place with odds as low as 10:1. Denmark, Belgium (despite failing to qualify last night!), Austria and Norway round out the Top 10. And good old Georgia is dead last as expected LOL.

What do you think about Sweden’s shift? Did Sanna really work it out tonight? And what about the Netherlands?

I don’t really see what is so special about Armenia’s song. He was off key and the first half of the song was too drawn out. It’s an ok song but I just don’t see it winning this year. I normally go for Sweden and although I like the song I too don’t think it’ll win. Would be nice though. I like UK’s song as well as Malta’s. My least favourite song this year would have to be from Norway. But good luck too all contestants this year. Plus big props to Austria. 🙂

@jojnjo ‘Sorry, Ukraine’s vocals weren’t bad…in fact Mariya sang beautifully’
Really? Watch her semifinal performance again and try to listen. Lmao.. She was barely singing.. the most singing done by back vocalists with powerful and sound a like voices. The same happened in 2011 when the swedish backvocal girls helped that silly goat Nigar aka Nikki) to sing her part. By the way the same girls are hired for Dilara this year! #pathetic
About Aram and his shaky voice.. Yes, it was shaky.. Lena with her Satellite for example shaked the shi*t out of her song. 🙂

Also can I just say, I expected the top countries to blow me away, but they didn’t. Armenia was very shaky, Sweden was a bit nervous, Ukraine’s vocals were bad and Hungary was a mess.

Still shocked that Estonia and Belgium didn’t make it through.

Sorry, Ukraine’s vocals weren’t bad…in fact Mariya sang beautifully…so I’ll re-write it again…in case you haven’t seen it the first time I wrote same, Mariya is going to win.

Period.

@RBN thanks for “compliment” dude .I saw you being hysterical too 😉 .Anyways I know what I think and I care less what you think . Whether your country is ahead or not that’s a question ,It depends on, what you compare . I guess you mean economy ? Ok .Who cares though it’s crisis everywhere ahem lol 😉

I know you usually remember about your country during Football and ESC .So good for you support it and act patriotic.

You are hysterical, let’s just agree to disagree. I obviously think my country is lightyears ahead of yours, and you probably think the same.

Let’s just call it our little Western European/Western Asian schism 😉

@RBN well I like how honest you are when you talk about your people. ; ) Oh yea small correction, we are more than 11million. Anyways both Jews and Armenians do not live in their countries (well I hope you know what’s the reason #Hitler ,#Turks,#history ? xD) but outside they achieve so much that you can not even realize. We are similar so it says alot 😉 Dude ,Holland has about same size as Armenia but more then 15 million people live there . Oh I guess that’s why when Dutch people leave Holland they feel like “OHHH OXYGEN thanks… Read more »

I didn’t mean to hurt your little british feelings. If I did, I’m sorry. On a serious note though, I didn’t disrespect the British entry. Yea, in the past Britain has send some bad songs to Eurovision, entries that served as the bathroom breaks for most people, but this year the entry is pretty good – top 10 good, but definitely not a winner.

Riiiight, because in the Netherlands people are stooooopid.

But I admit, many Armenians are very smart, that’s why out of give or take 8 million Armenians, only 3 million or so actually live in Armenia..

Yeah peace out man, and good luck to Aram on Saturday

@RBN wow so you know some Geography …that’s cool cuz in your country many people hardly know where other countries are, which is bit weird (I am just being honest ) lol 😉 . We are indeed as you said in Western Asia ,BUT here in ESC countries like Armenia and Azerbaijan are known as Eastern Europe haha, so please get used to it 😉 .

Peace out dude .

Get off your high horse hillbilly, having a Red Light District with mainly Eastern European prostitutes doesn’t make our local women sluts..

I agree with you on one thing.. Eastern Europe is more than just slavonic.. There’s Romania and Moldova as well..

Don’t start on Armenia, everyone knows its geographically in Western Asia. So you are excluded from the discussion on Eastern Europe and don’t have to feel offended.

it is certainly not correct, choose the winner in 2014 convenient for the contest in 2015. In my opinion, a long time, the winner must choose only voting viewers, they main listeners will then win favorite song throughout Europe. then the policy of friendship and neighboring countries will go by the wayside and all will be honest. disgrace is that the participants of the first semifinal contest do not vote, and vote necessary for participants in the second semifinal. and there may be no one like me? do not properly account for songs ….. 2014 ….. “I’m pretty sure that Sweden and Armenia will get given 12th and 13th spots.”

I really hope you’re right, but I have this funny feeling that they’re – ironically – going to give Sanna the 7th spot – since it was her 7th attempt to get to ESC, I think this fact came up in nearly every interview with Sanna during the past week. Wouldn’t surprise me if Denmark did it as a pun for their “big brother” Sweden.

Sweden might win. At least they then have something to cheer about, since they don t seem to be able to win anything else. Personally i hope the plastic dummy ends last. Am sure nobody will ever hear this song again, like other years. The only recent true winner was Ryback (from White Russia) representing Norwegians (since they cannot sing themselves). Most of the other winners are outright garbage because of xenofobic narrowminded political voting. Cheers

Ruth’s fanboys are hysterical.. lol, really capslock? haha.. Look, it is not over yet, Aram is still second favorite and he’s going to nail it on 10 may.
About UK dreaming about 60th edition in London? I just can’t imagine how EBU’s going to do that.. i mean it is possible in Sweden’s, Armenian, Hungarian, Ukrainian, even Dutch cases, but how on earth they are going explain the needed votes for Molly? No way Europe will massively vote for that song, especially East Europe.
So this scenario is not going to work.

As to writing per se, you can have a look at my blog [click on my name, I guess that should lead you]. I write short stories and some poetry mostly, and I also have some bigger work in progress. It’s all in English, Spanish and Portuguese, which are the languages I know well.

Oh, just for your info and before I get back to work (been doing little these days hehe)… although I am a part-time writer not a musician, I’ve been finally talked into giving lyrics a try and I’ve already got three “working pieces” underway, one even with music and some people now insisting I should finish it and make a demo. So who knows, maybe you’ll have me submitting it for ESC 2015? You’re not done with me in here 😉
Peace!

I am very surprised to see the Netherlands at 7/1 odds. Sure they have a nice song and stuff but I just don’t see a 5th victory for them. But still, I am glad that they have their mojo back. But to be honest with you, I wouldn’t mind it being Amsterdam 2015 in the Ziggo Dome with Ewout Genemans and Kim-Lian van der Meij hosting it.

Firstly…Russia deserved to be booed. Its a homophobic country and the Eurovision has always had a huge gay following. Alot of people in the arena were gay and they were vocalising their discontent at Russias disgraceful lack of human rights for gay people. On a musical note, The Netherlands surprised me hugely and absolutely loved the performance and I think its a top five. Armenia and Aram was nervous but dont write him off because he will perform better in the final. I do like the Swedish song but is beginning to bore me slightly. I would love to see… Read more »

After reading all the comments here you go: 1. If the UK entry is going to win because it draws a “lucky” number, then her victory is worth $0. UK does not have the winning song this year and doesn’t deserve it. 2. To all those who are justifying the booing of the Russian twins, you are immature, unappreciative human beings. Those sisters worked very hard to be on that stage and they did not deserve to be booed. Booing is not acceptable. You want to show your disapproval, get involved in politics, sign petitions, write letters to your political… Read more »

I suppose we all agree that this shouldn’t be about politics, but about music. Maybe it’s a good idea to stick to the musical discussion, because there’s enough interesting stuff to discuss and it doesn’t destroy the atmosphere. I loved the 1st semifinal and in most cases I think the right countries found their way to the final. The Netherlands totally surprised me, what a nice and sincere song! Loved it! In the last 15 years, 13 of the 15 winning songs were sung in the second half of the final (87%:13%). The last 9 winners sung in the second half, 2004 was the last winner in the first half!! In the last 15 years, this is how the singing position of winners breaks down :- 1 to 5 – One 6 to 10 – One 11 to 15 – TWO 16 to 20 – EIGHT 21 to 24 – THREE So I would consider the PRIME SLOTS to be 17 to 20 Can it be done singing in the first… Read more »
