If our readers are a barometer of European attitudes, then Ireland’s Can-Linn feat. Kasey Smith and Greece’s Freaky Fortune feat. Riskykidd will battle it out to win the second semi-final of Eurovision 2014.

Since we opened our second semi-final poll on March 20, our readers have cast a total of 32,675 votes. Ireland’s Can-linn earned an impressive 12,531 votes, or 39% of all those cast. Kasey, who is a front-runner to win Eurovision’s Next Top Model 2014, is looking fierce and sounding great. When our readers climb the rainbow, they don’t want a pot of gold. They want Miss Kasey Smith, y’all!

Greece’s Freaky Fortune, who bounce on a trampoline during their performance, finished in second with our readers. They earned 11,505 votes, or around 35% of all those cast. Interestingly, they are 1-2-3 in our search for Eurovision’s Next Top Male Model. Are our readers voting for the song or for their looks? Either way, they are bringing the heat—and it may lift them to the top.

Following the first dress rehearsal of the second semi-final in Copenhagen this morning, betting agencies across Europe named Romania’s Paula Seling & Ovi the favourites to win the semi. Our readers also rate them highly, putting them in third place. They earned 2,272 votes, or around 7%.

Who will win the second semi-final at Eurovision 2014?

  1. Ireland: Can-linn feat Kasey Smith with “Heartbeat”: 12,531 votes, 38.35%
  2. Greece: Freaky Fortune feat. Riskykidd with “Rise Up”: 11,505 votes, 35.21%
  3. Romania: Paula Seling & Ovi with “Miracle”: 2,272 votes, 6.95%
  4. Slovenia: Tinkara Kovach with “Spet/Round and Round”: 902 votes, 2.76%
  5. Israel: Mei Finegold with “Same Heart”: 807 votes, 2.47%
  6. Malta: Firelight with “Coming Home”: 707 votes, 2.16%
  7. Norway: Carl Espen with “Silent Storm”: 693 votes, 2.12%
  8. Austria: Conchita Wurst with “Rise like a Phoenix”: 669 votes, 2.05%

Hi everyone! YYYYIIIIHHHHAAAA! After the long wait it is finally here: the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest Copenhagen 2014! I think this is a much weaker semi-final in contrast to the first semi-final on Tuesday. This is my top 15 of the second semi-final tonight: 01. Austria 02. Norway 03. Ireland 04. Romania 05. Slovenia 06. Israel 07. Malta 08. FYR Macedonia 09. Greece 10. Georgia 11. Belarus 12. Lithuania 13. Switzerland 14. Finland 15. Poland I’m very disappointed that I’m not allowed to vote in this semifinal! 🙁 Of course I hope that my top 10 qualifies,… Read more »

Hi Guys Just before I head to bed. School in the morning. I know, I know. But I have my Junior Cert in 3 weeks time so I need a good night’s sleep. So yeah, straight into it. I watched the Irish dress rehearsal and I am telling right here and now, Can Linn and Kasey Smith were absolutely superb. The backdrop was very nice. The staging was very good and I can definitely see it going through to the final tomorrow night. She has a real Miss Universe walk about her. It’s real seductive and her dress is amazing. This… Read more »

Eurovision never stops to surprise with the positive and negative way…Judging from the Belgium’s entry as a jury favorite, nothing is given and sure for qualification.. I will predict the ten qualifiers of second semifinal considering their songs, their live performances, their vocal ability, their rehearsal and their popularity to web totally.
1.Greece
2.Israel
3.Norway
4.Romania
5.Austria
6.Poland
7.Malta
8.Ireland
9.Switzerland
10.Slovenia
P.S.San Marino and Iceland were great surprises for qualification and I believe that Belarus will probably be one of them tomorrow night…

Hi everyone… not much time today. Just popped in to have a look and was positively impressed at the maturity and interesting level of the discussions 😉
Bye Sopon, Thiefo, Deven [and I thought some of my comments got long, hehe]… in short, nite nite everyone!

Hi Sopon Yeah, I agree with you. I want Israel to qualify but after what happened to Estonia last night it made me worry big time about them. I also agree that last night saw no definite ”failures” if you like, and the fact that it was a very hard semi final to get out of. This semi final has 4 definite ”failures” in my opinion. They are Slovenia, Georgia, Macedonia and Lithuania with either Poland, Switzerland or Belarus taking the last spot in ”loser land”. The more certain ”winners” are: Malta and Israel (however, remaining open mided for both… Read more »

I want Israel to qualify. Estonia’s NQ yesterday worried me about Israel’s chances, but the truth is that SF1 had no solid NQs other than Latvia. SF2 is easier and already has 3 solid NQs (Georgia, Belarus, Macedonia) and I’m guessing Switzerland, Slovenia, or Lithuania will take the other two slots. Mei will be fine. :))

Hi Thiefo. Thanks for commenting. 😉 I will tell you the countries that have at least SOME chance of ever winning Eurovision. 1. Azerbaijan: Need I explain? 2. Armenia: They have a good set of results so far. 3. Sweden: Like Azerbaijan, need I explain? 4. Russia: They are basically the Eastern European answer to Ireland. 5. Ukraine: They have performed very well since their inception in 2003. 6. Denmark: Their string of top 5 results since 2010 is pretty good. 7. Greece: Apart from 2012. They have placed in the top 10 every year since 2004. 8. Ireland: Don’t… Read more »

Thiefo

@Deven Wow, what a long list! that is of course, your opinion, but I hardly believe all those countries have ZERO possibilities to win one day, you simply never now! So going as far as saying those “are facts” is going a little too far in my opinion.
Take Armenia for example, still one of the favourites to win this year, even if their momentum is fading already, but you still might get your first wrong this soon!

Hi Timselvision. How’s life?

I’m not complaining, I am just telling my honest opinion. But yeah, you are right. The future of Eurovision is safe and you never know what Lithuania or Poland might send next year. For all we know, it could very well be Warsaw or Vilnius 2016.

Hi RyanIreland

Yeah, Ok, I can see the countries that you have listed as possible winners in the future. But I think Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Belarus are just wasting their time and money taking part because they are never going to win and that’s a fact. No matter how many Aarzemniekis, Slavic Girls or Cheesecakes they throw at the contest.

My fvourites of the second semi are Malta, Norway and Asutria. And Greece I guess. I really, really don’t get how Romania and Slovenia are that popular to be honest.

Hi RyanIreland I absolutely agree with you. I will give you list of countries that will NEVER win the Eurovision (again). Portugal (Out of touch with modern pop.) Czech Republic Slovakia Lithuania (Clueless when it comes to Eurovision) Austria Cyprus Latvia (They don’t give a shite about it.) France (Remember Amaury Vassilli in 2011.) Spain (The same with Pastora Soler a year later.) Bulgaria Montenegro Albania Armenia (If Aram MP3 doesn’t win on Saturday night.) Belarus (They honestly don’t care about it.) Poland Moldova Netherlands (Poor Anouk.) Some of them might surprise us and win (again) in the future. But… Read more »

@ deven True but I think some countries will never win eurovision and unfortunately for Portugal it hasn’t or currently is not looking good for them. Why would RTP continue to put money into it, it’s like Czech Republic and Slovakia pulling out, just never a runner. Too be honest folks an outside bet for a top ten placing which would return a nice return would be Iceland in the final, I have a sneaking suspicion that it’ll do what Lithuania did in 2006 with We are the Winners!! 🙂 Just a hunch, but I can see it scoring very… Read more »

I think that Ireland and Greece will qualify tomorrow night. Both Austria and Israel should qualify for sure. But, after what happened to San Marino last year and Estonia last night, I am worried that one of these countries will fail to qualify tomorrow night. 🙁 Lithuania, Slovenia, Macedonia and Georgia in my opinion, have absolutely NO chance of getting to the final let alone a bad placing in the final. Malta, Belarus and Switzerland will be border line qualifiers.

If this is the result, I will be extremely happy 🙂
But in all honesty I can’t see us winning this semi.
On a good night between 4th to 6th but I’d say more like 8th or 9th
Just looking at competition and who is voting in our semi.
Outside of the top ten on the list I would like to see Finland and Switzerland qualify

I think both Greece and Romania have great possibilities, but Ireland? Not so much. I think it will pass though.
