Some shook what their mamma gave ’em. Others used expensive special affects. Several danced in the rain. But financially-challenged Greece only needed three handsome faces to win our Best music video of 2014 poll. In your face, the rest of Europe!
There is a saying in Romania that goes something like this: “When two are fighting, the third one wins”. This is what happened with our poll as well. In the comments section, the Azeris threw it down with the Armenians. Spanish fans argued with the Romanians. Gays claimed that fierce Mei from Israel should win, while straights said that Poland’s breast-filled video takes the cake. Meanwhile, Greek fans stayed (mostly) silent and kept pushing that vote button. In the end, the sexy guys of Freaky Fortune (Nikolas Raptakis and Theofilos Pouzbouris) and Riskykidd took the lead and ended up on top. “Rise Up” they did, indeed!

Second place belongs to Romania. Paula Seling and Ovi received government support for the video and it shows. They filled a cabin with water, then grass, and added butterflies and sparkles to maximize the magical effect of “Miracle”. In the end, what looked like a hell hole is now a corner of paradise. Two dancers complete the Adam and Eve impression.

Ruth Lorenzo from Spain is sitting (or rather, dancing) pretty in third place with her sexy partner Giuseppe DiBella. They are literally “Dancing in the Rain” and they look gorgeous doing it. Moreover, Ruth lost her voice for a little while after trying to sing underwater as well – this shows dedication, y’all!

Armenia’s Aram Mp3 also had a rain-filled video for his song “Not Alone”. In it, two lovers quarrel in the car. They part, and the girl cries while guy appears to be furious with himself for losing his beloved. But all’s well when it ends well, with unquestionably the most cinematic kiss of this Eurovision season. Meanwhile, Aram is brilliantly filmed singing his great song very passionately. Fourth place for his video.

Poland’s Donatan and Cleo brought major sex appeal and cleavage to their video, and this clearly brought them a lot of votes. However, the song “My Slowianie – We Are Slavic” is not about breasts and sexy looks, but a clever deconstruction of stereotypes about Slavic people. We get it and their fans got it too, bringing the video to fifth place.

These are the complete results of the poll. An impressive 20,182 votes were cast. Thank you for voting en masse for your favourite music video!

What do you think about the results? Are you surprised that the low-budget video of “Rise Up” won? Or do you think that sometimes less is more? Sound off below!

@SwitzStars
Greece is the most successfull country in ESC since the creation of Semi-finals. Russia is the most successfull country of the last 10 years in general. Also, Azerbaijan is pretty strong but it joined the ESC in 2008 so you can’t really make the comparison

Well certainly people voted for the song, rather than the video in the case of Greece, because for as much as I like the song, the video is nothing special.

Interesting to notice the great difference between #10 and #9, The Netherlands only got 223 votes while Ukraine got 1,420, number were pretty consistent in the top 9 and then went down drastically from #10 downwards. What?
