The grand final of Eurovision 2014 is just hours away. As contestants slip into their tightest pants and apply foundation and blush to every inch of their skin, I thought I’d take one last look at YouTube hits to see who the public is most curious about. I’m only using Youtube views of the official Eurovision semi-final performances from the Eurovision.tv channel. As we’ve discussed many times before, this is by no means a perfect indication of who will win, but it DOES show who has buzz. So, without further ado, here are the numbers for each of the semi-finals…

Semi-Final 1

1. Russia 654,921

2. Armenia 517,231

3. The Netherlands 338,865

4. Sweden 263,970

5. Ukraine 224,021

6. Azerbaijan 219,972

7. Montenegro 189,434

8. Hungary 189,103

9. San Marino 146,835

10. Iceland 116,593

It makes sense that Russia would have the most views. It’s the most populous country competing at Eurovision, and it has an enormous diaspora. Political tensions have likely stoked interest in the acid-blonde teens, who throw down a “Siamese fantasy” in their stage show.

What’s more surprising to us is that fan favourite Hungary (population 10 million) is only eighth in Youtube views. He’s even behind Montenegro (population 620,000).

Semi-Final 2

1. Austria 734,714

2. Poland 496,287

3. Greece 223,655

4. Slovenia 117,820

5. Belarus 114,305

6. Romania 111,216

7. Switzerland 99,574

8. Finland 94,180

9. Norway 49,985

10. Malta 44,410

Austria has built an enormous leads in its semi-final. That beard is getting the attention, y’all—but is it the right kind of attention? We fear that many people are just curious about the bearded lady, rather than her music. And Poland in second? Perhaps people want tips on how to churn butter…or maybe male viewers are just looking for some softcore…music.

The Spanish video has received more visits than the Russian and Austrian ones, and it has not been commented here.

In 2013, Cezar from Romania got the more views after the semifinals. It`s all about the fact that he shocked. Austria does the same this year. I am afraid that Conchita will not be noted by `professional juries` from every country, like Cezar last year. They got the public attention, but the succes will come after that:) Good luck to everyone from the final tonight!

Hi LEAPerce – Yes I can see why men might look at the video for curiosity value. But if men are “perving” (to use your word,) over this performance/video, I would be seriously worried about them!! (Get rid PDQ!!) I like the way you are keeping an eye on your man, hehe!! You have nothing to worry about there, he passed the test. (Unless you catch him watching the video over and over gain.) Just sit him down and make sure he watches the final with you. The thing is if Poland do well, many will say it is because… Read more »

Eugene, I think Robyn is kind of right, cos people have heard about it and thought it would be worth a view! Haha. When I forced my boyfriend to watch the semi finals (he actually ended up enjoying eurovision, despite protesting watching it for WEEKS hurrah!!!) Poland came on and I assured him that he’s like it for one reason hahaha! Luckily he didn’t perv too bad ha!!

Hi Robyn – If people wanted to look at “boobies”, there’s free porn all over the internet, why should they look at the Polish video?? Maybe they are into “Eurovision Soft Porn”, hehe!! In all honesty we will never know, but Poland’s position tonight might give us a clue and very strangely, you may be right.

“Views” do not always translate into votes as views may be linked to country population, so again we will not really know. So I’m not sure how relevant these figures are but it is good to know anyway.

The Polish video is attracting a lot of attention because of the boobies.

It will be a great show tomorrow, I have no doubt about that. And the voting will be a living hell 😉
I sincerely hope each of the acts will do their very best. Let’s all enjoy this (European? World?) mega-event. Bread and Circuses!!
