The second semi-final of Eurovision 2014 was as crazy as the first, with some questionable acts advancing over the fan favourites. Were you beating from the same heart as Mei Finegold? Did Lithuania deserve some more attention from Europe? Should Tijana have gone both to the sky AND to the final? And what about Can-Linn feat. Kasey Smith? Did you want to hold on to their heartbeat?

You can watch the performances from all of the non-qualifiers below. Then vote in our poll. Remember: you can vote for as many countries as you would like, but you can only vote ONE time. Click the box next to each act you want to support before pressing submit.

Right from the start I knew who my favorite was. It was Israel by far with my own country The Netherlands as a close second. But when I heard the live performance it changed my opinion. Though Mei sang with all her might. To me personally something was off. But despite that there were worse songs and Israel at least deserved to qualify. Eurovision 2014 was the Eurovision of surprises. Did you expect the Netherlands to qualify second? Did you expect Armenia or Sweden not to win? Did you expect Azerbaijan placing 22nd. Because I sure as hell didn’t!

As much as I believe Mei wasn’t at the top of her game (I mean, we’ve seen what this woman was able to pull out) that result was simply outrageous.

Will Israel be back to try again in 2015, or give up? Turkey has quit, and I’m hearing that Russia wants to pull the same stunt and create a rival song contest. Will future ESC be much smaller, perhaps with only ten to fifteen countries?

I love Tijana from Macedonia but I have to face it, it was not a good performance… Mei from Israel was never in my favorites but after the performance I loved her, so much energy and great act, it is a shame she didn’t advanced… I was surprised about Can-Linn from Ireland, it was not my favorite song but I thought she would give a good performance and that was not the case, I think it was ok she didn’t passed… then we have Vilija from Lithuania and The Shin and Mariko from Georgia, I want to aplaud this acts,… Read more »

Georgia were excellent and sadly underrated. Very talented musicians, great singer in Mariko and an interesting and original song. All of the songs in the second semi were better than some of the ones that got through in the first semi.

Israel and Estonia (ok, I’m talking about 1st semi final too…) we’re ruined by the camera angles, because they had dance performances, and we should see better. Ireland is still a good song, but the backing vocals we’re so bad! FYROM’s performance scared me. The dancer, Tijana’s hair and that hands on background… D: Georgia is a good song after 1 minute. Lithuania is just… ANNOYING. I knew that Belarus would be the surprise of this semi final. Still soooo happy that Switzerland, Slovenia and Finland made it! Great songs and performances! In the 1st semi final, Estonia and Portugal… Read more »

IRELAND! They had such a beautiful song. Was really shocked when they didn’t qualify.

Israel should have qualified instead of Finland for me.
And to all those telling Belarus had nothing to do in final: he ended 5th in his semi-final, so it’s a JUSTIFIED & SOLID qualifier. Us, those few people who believe in ‘Cheesecake’ from the beginning, were right from the beginning, we knew it was a quality song, with a unfightable catchiness and a real freshness.
Ireland had a qualifier song, but live was disappointing.
FYROM not strong enough, and Georgia & Lithunia both hot messes.
Lithuania, Georgia

Israel, Macedonia and Ireland all had great songs and they are all very catchy, but their performances and their live vocals were very disappointing. Israel had an underwhelming staging and camera angles were bad, Kasey looked like she was very uncomfortable on the stage and the choreography was a mess (it looked like they were trying to put as much “Oirish” elements as possible in it) and Tijana sounded like shit and out of breath, even though the performance looked very stylish.

The difference in points between the top10 and the rest of the countries shows the different in quality of the songs between them. Enough said!

Israel and Macedonia.

Ireland was so sub par. The performance killed the song.

Georgia and Lithuania burn my ears.

Weirdly, Georgia was the act I enjoyed most out of the non qualifiers.

However, most of these are better than some of the terrible performances that did qualify. (Belarus I’m looking at you.) Not Ireland. Ireland, you were terrible. And I can’t even remember the first thing about Macedonia.

Is this a joke? Lithuania should have qualified of all of these!

Kidding. Israel was the best NQ song.

I honestly don’t know what else some people need to understand that Israel didn’t qualify due to politics…

@fatima
If you were to reduce the numbers of qualifiers, then surely countries like Ireland, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium and Portugal would be at a disadvantage, giving that the same countries qualify every year without fail, regardless of what they send. if you were to reduce the number of qualifiers, we would be stuck with a finale consisting of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the big 5 every single year.

Israel, but by this stage, and having listened to them constantly for a month, I wanted them all to qualify, even Georgia. But I actually think we need fewer songs in the final because there are too many for the average voter to consider when it comes to vote.

none of them should have qualified….there’s a reason these 5 didn’t get through….the performances on the night were positively awful….we fans often take these songs out of context….we like the singer/the song/the video/the artist….we grow to love the songs, etc…but everyone else sees the show in its entirety on the actual night for the very first time….and the above were truly dreadful live (as the rest of Europe CLEARLY decided…none of them were even near qualifying)….awful staging, poor lighting….little/poor camera eye contact….israel and ireland especially, despite great songs…to be honest, they probably saved themselves the embarrassment of performing in front… Read more »

My favorite was Georgia and I thought they sounded amazing live, but they were never going to make it through; however, Lithuania deserved a spot for their performance.

Israel’s exclusion was a shock. Lithuania’s performance was surprisingly strong and could have advanced and Ireland’s performance was surprisingly pedestrian. I wanted her to advance to get another shot at it but the semi performance didn’t merit it. She seemed to be very unhappy while performing.

After re-watching the performances quite some times I must say I think my favourite from the non qualifiers, alongside Israel, is Lithuania, weird tutu and all.

CLEARLY israel!!! They should’ve been in the top 3! I can’t believe that they didn’t advance but i were more shocked when i found out that they were second-last!!! Almost as bad as Georgia WTF
