This year DR, the host broadcaster, spent a huge chunk of money traveling around Europe filming the Eurovision postcards—those 50-second clips between acts that introduce the contestants. We ooo and ahhh and get rul, rul emotional. (Meanwhile, stage hands use the time to drag on drums and sets for the next act, and to sweep up stray sequins).

We know you liked a lot of them, but there has to be a winner. Which postcard tickled your fancy the most?

Did Sweden’s Sanna Nielsen take your breath away with her inflatable rafts? Did Albania’s Hersi make you want to run to a tattoo parlour? Did Romania’s Paula & Ovi light your fire(works)? Or did the Common Linnets have you booking a ticket to Amsterdam so you could start growing tulips?

You can review some of this year’s most talked-about postcards below. Then vote in our poll. You can vote for as many countries as you would like, but you can only vote ONE time. We’ll close this poll on May 30.

Please note that we cannot publish every postcard below. But let’s face it. If you don’t remember the postcard, it probably wasn’t your favourite…However, you can watch ALL 37 in this video from Eurovision.tv:

I hope that Austria will continue the Danish and Swedish creative way of presenting the participating performers and countries in the postcards, and not go back to the old tradition of using them as a tourist advertisement for the host country.

Finland, The Netherlands, UK and Italy gave us creative postcards that reflected their countries nicely:)

Tijana’s Macedonian postcard is a Chladni Pattern. Though the eight-ray pattern is one of the simpler ones, I suspect a little cheating was done to make it so clean and keep the circle in the center.

@ Robyn – I thought they were using GPS on their own mobiles to find each other – because they seemed happy when they found each other………

I had a look at the postcard again…….. I’ve realised that I don’t think I watched it properly at all on both times it was shown….

Actually i loved all the postcards. Loved the postcards this year, great idea! But if you asked me Portugal was the most orginal by far. Also United Kingdom, Switzerland, Ireland &nd Romania were awesome !

The only one that i didn’t really liked was the postcard of Russia. Just because it looked that the twins walked into a random room. The rest really did their best to make a good postcard.

Armenian postcard was the best, it tells many things about armenian history and it was handmade. Aremeniaaaaaaaaaa

@kaden The Russian flag was made from the white, blue and red light tubes. All the other postcards show the flag being made somehow, but in this video the “making” was just the twins wandering around until they found the right combination of lights to take a photo of. It was a bit weird and not the most effective postcard.

WELCOME TO HIGH NEWS AT 18:30. OUR TOP STORY TONIGHT:

TURKEY SHELVES PLANS FOR EVER RETURNING TO THE CONTEST!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turkish public broadcaster TRT have diminished any chance of returning to the Eurovision Song Contest any time soon, despite Sietse Bakker tweeting of the possibility of a return this year. They pulled out of the 2013 and 2014 citing dissatisfaction with the 50/50 jury/ tele voting system and the rule allowing the Big 5 countries into the final straight away.

THAT’S ALL FOR NOW. PLEASE COMMENT ON MY BLOG. But for now, from all the team in the newsroom, have a nice evening.

My favorites are: UK because it’s very British, Portugal because Suzy is very committed to do the body painting (and it looks good), The Netherlands because it’s very Dutch, and Switzerland because it has that beautiful sequence in the end when all the dominoes fell off.

I’m pretty gutted when the Iceland’s postcard came out because they were just showing the Iceland flag through the projector, and I was expecting much more fun things from them because basically they are fun to watch. But I appreciate them for making the postcard in that cold snowy weather.

UK, Portugal, Montenegro, Poland, Azerbaijan, Slovenia were the best. Italy and Macedonia were the worst.

I simply loved the postcards this year. My favorites were Norway, United Kingdom, Poland, Israel and Austria… I hated the ones were they simply painted the flag, like San Marino. I’m sure that one could’ve been solved in a more creative way…

My favourite was Portugal. That was, I gather, only one with the artist herself in the flag.

Here’s a making-of video for the Swiss postcard, by the guys who responsible for all the fancy domino work:

I’d love to see sort of thing for all the postcards. As much as it’s possible to think that all contestants were multitalented, it’s pretty obvious there were invisible helpers lending a hand. Except Carl Espen – I’m pretty sure he could do all that carpentry himself!

Just a thought – it’s not “each year the host broadcaster spends a huge chunk of money traveling around Europe filming the Eurovision postcards…”; it’s just these two year, the Swedish and the Danish postcard. And if we count the Norwegian traveling around for their “share the moment” thing, that may be 3.
