Paws up! Just a little over ten days after winning Eurovision Song Contest, Conchita Wurst has been invited to open for Lady Gaga’s tour “artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball”. And the Austrian singer graciously accepted.
The news has been reported by Eurovision.tv, which quotes a “Huffington Post” article. According to this source, Lady Gaga herself asked Conchita to open for her shows on the new tour.
This should really come as no surprise, seeing as the guy behind the flamboyant character Conchita Wurst, Tom Neuwirth, is openly gay and Lady Gaga has always been an open spokesperson for the LGBT cause and an all-around gay icon. However, this is as the same time huge and great news for the Eurovision winner.
Lady Gaga’s new world tour started on May 4 in Florida and will reach European shores on September 16th, when her “artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball” will roll over in Istanbul, Turkey. This is when Conchita is expected to take to the stage and it will be very interesting to see how Turkey will react to the double trouble brought by the bearded lady and Lady Gaga.
More interestingly, we are curious to see what songs Conchita will perform, besides “Rise Like a Phoenix” and “That’s What I Am”. On more than one occasion, Conchita Wurst has stated that she is yet to produce material for an album, which makes us wonder what she will do on stage. Perhaps belt out Cher covers? Not entirely inappropriate, considering the crowd…

Despite this not being a proven fact, it still sounds like great news in the making.
As regards the Turkish crowd, I expect there should be no inconvenience whatsoever. You see, although there may be a few or even many people against “different” acts anywhere, it is a fact that wild demonstrations of hatred and despise are few and far between -usually fueled by certain officials/specific organisations. I take it for a fact that, should CW to perform in Eastern Europe even, the real “damage” would be minimal.

I just know that your authorities are a bit backward when it comes to progressive artists and free-thinking spirits, that’s all. WOW! This is just amazing. She (Conchita) is fast becoming a household name worldwide. Copenhagen 2014 could easily be the most commercially successful contest we have seen since Dublin 1994 as a result of her. To be honest with you, I think we may have witnessed the birth of a global megastar in the form of Conchita Wurst.
If anything is to go by, the bar was set exceptionally high by Conchita in Copenhagen. Can ANYONE raise the bar EVEN HIGHER in Vienna next year?
