In the right light and with enough to drink, you might just mistake James Fox, the UK’s Eurovision 2004 contestant, for Paul McCartney. Fox plays the Beatle in the musical revival of ‘Let It Be’, which is currently showing at the New Theatre in Cardiff, and has adopted the star’s mannerisms—and, dare we say, his looks.

Born James Mullet, he had his first big break during the second series of BBC’s Fame Academy, coming fifth. He went on to represent  the UK at The Eurovision Song Contest in 2004 with “Hold On To Our Love”, which placed 16th.

Despite signing with Sony Music and releasing a string of pop numbers, he eventually gravitated to musical theatre. He has starred as Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar (UK tour) and the Piano Man in the Billy Joel musical Movin’ Out (Broadway, West End and North American tour).

“Let It Be” traces the Beatles’ rise from Liverpool obscurity to global domination. The musical debuted at Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End in 2012, and has since shown on Broadway and regional UK theatres. It moves to London’s Garrick Theatre this summer.
