To hold the microphone shaped Eurovision winner’s trophy is a big honour. But let’s face it: sometimes it goes to the wrong person. People point fingers. They blame everyone from the jury to nationalistic televoters for the outcome.

So now you, faithful wiwibloggs readers, can choose the acts who you would like to wipe from the history books. Here you may choose you least favourite Eurovision winner since the Olsen Brothers won in Stockholm 2000.

You can vote for as many artists as you would like, but you can only vote one time.

Eurovision winners — 2000 – 2014

2000 – Olsen Brothers – Fly On The Wings Of Love (Denmark)

2001 – Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL – Everybody (Estonia)

2002 – Marie N – I Wanna (Latvia)

First of all, I think it should be a common agreed fact that Ukraine’s “Wild Dances” is certainly the best winner considering the fact that people voted it above famous entries such as “Waterloo” however this could be because of the differences with tastes over the years. I didn’t like Alexander Rybak’s song so much but it got the most points in Eurovision history so… I don’t think the Olsen brothers really deserved to win. I think Conchita Wurst is a truly inspirational character. She/he also has a great voice compared to other artists but I think there were some… Read more »

I would have appreciated the Azeri entry/winner 2011 if the song was written by their domestic songwriters. There must be songwriters of their own!!? I feel the same way for all the winning entries of Luxembourg when their song were written by French musicians. There might be other examples but I picked up the most outrageous ones.

I’m confused, are we voting for the worst winning song or winner that shouldn’t have been? For example, Marie N’s “I Wanna” is in my opinion, the worst song out of all the winners from 2000-14. But 2002 wasn’t the best year, so Marie didn’t have much to fight against. Getting a favourable draw even with a poor song was why we went to Riga in 2003. But if we are voting for the song that shouldn’t have won the contest then I have a few “worst winners” for that too. I don’t think Turkey should’ve won in 2003, nor… Read more »

In a year with “Çaroban” (still my pick for best Eurovision entry of all time), “In Love for a While,” and “Ding Dong” (a guilty pleasure from a Eurovision legend), the “Running Scared” win is inexcusable.

2005 – Israel israel and again israel.Such a meaningful song, compared to Helena’s.Really, this is the only year i don’t see ANY advantage for Helena over the Israeli singer. She was BEAUTIFUL,her vocals made me jaws drop…Helena’s okay, but i still don’t get it why she was better than Israel =/
2006 – FINLAND FTW NO COMMENT.We need more songs like this!
2007 – Serbia.First time i liked a song that’s in a language i don’t understand.Except the Buranovskie Babushki 😀
2008 – Didn’t have any favorites that year,but if i had to pick,Ukraine.

Okay, might as well put my list on too. 2009 – Iceland or Norway, can’t decide…leaning towards Norway though 2010 – Anything but Germany. 2011 – Anything but Azerbaijan,God,HOW DID THAT EVEN WIN.I didn’t watch that one,but i guess some juries got paid a LOT.AND I MEAN A LOT. 2012 – Germany,no contest. But i loved Russia too. I think i’m the only person who can’t stand Euphoria. The song was terrible to me,and so was the way she looked.I thought she was 50 years old before i looked her up on Wikipedia… 2013 – Malta and Denmark 😀 2014 – AUSTRIAAAAAAAA.During the voting… Read more »

for me there has to be at least a few that i didn’t like so here i pick who i choose since 2002 when i started watching 2002 croatia, france or malta should have won in 2002 instead of latvia. 2003 agree with the winner, or though belguim grew on me quickly 2004 one of my favourite winners 2005 grew on me, but also like malta and denmark that year as well. 2006 agree totally 2007 one of my favourites (still gets played on my ipod a lot) 2008 like ukraine, armenia and norway (still don’t understand why russia won… Read more »

Norway 2009, Germany 2010 and Azerbaijan 2011 just do not deserve winning the competition IMO, especially for 2010. The only thing I can say is that Satellite is catchy, but just like MTD said, it’s a bubble-gum pop song and this genre should not be appeared on an International stage in Eurovision as its just too informal IMO. The accent is also awful, here I am NOT trying to discriminate non-English speaking people, but music is a combination of many aspects and accent is certainly one of them. No big deal actually but you know, listening to a strange accent… Read more »

In my opinion 2006, 2010 and 2012 were the only years where the best song/performance won. Maybe 2004 as well but only because the standard was so low. 2014 – I think the Netherlands should have pipped Austria but Conchita was not a bad winner. 2013 – Norway definitely should have won. Hungary, France and Netherlands were also great. Denmark was ok but not spectacular. 2011 – Germany should have won twice in a row. “Taken By a Stranger” was even better than Satellite. Azerbaijan did not even deserve Top Ten. 2009 – Meh. I preferred Estonia and Iceland but… Read more »

I pretty much agree with the winners except for: 2001… no words for this 2008 (would have loved to see Armenia or Ukraine winning but Russia winning was kind of obvious as it was the most middle of the road appealing to west and east). 2009 (never got why Norway won. Song was decent but there were so many more quality entries like Iceland or France or mor fun like Turkey or Azerbaijan) 2013 (Denmark? Seriously? Norway had such an amazing and original song! 2014 Even though I love Conchita and I love the song, the fact that this song… Read more »

@Ayka: … Your songs weren’t even written and composed by Azeri songwriters … instead Swedish people were paid a lot of money to have your country compete in Eurovision. Oh this one is so damn easy for me: EVERYTHING between 1999 and 2006 and 2008 … the years of pure televoting just showcased back then how much people loved to see the bad on top and the good being rejected just for the fun of their stupidity. Then going a bit back further: Ireland 4 wins in the 90s … well … I can handle with the Linda Martin winning in 1992 but I have never been a fan of Niahm’s 1993 entry so my pick for 1993 would have been Norway or the Netherlands. In 1994 … I… Read more »

My winners:
2000- Denmark
2001- France
2002- Malta
2003- Russia
2004- Serbia & Montenegro
2005- Israel
2006- Poland
2007- Moldova
2008- Serbia
2009- Iceland
2010- Denmark
2011- Bosnia & Herzegovina
2012- Estonia
2013- Norway
2014- Sweden

So basically, the only winner I agree with is 2000, but that’s probably because I’ve only heard around 3 songs from 2000. Anyway, I am happy with most of the winners despite me not rooting for them, but the ones I’m not happy with are Estonia, Latvia, Greece, Finland, and Russia.

Here is my take on the winners since 2000: Denmark in 2000: This is one of my all time favourite Eurovision songs and I am only 15. But still, the honesty and musical ability that these brothers have is incredible. Well worth the 37 year wait for a 2nd win Denmark. Estonia in 2001: This song is a bit too jumpy. However, I do like it. Latvia in 2002: Too much Vitamin D in this song. Not a real winner at all. Turkey in 2003: I love the fact that this pop song is tailored towards the Middle East. Well, most of these weren’t my winners of the year, but I didn’t feel it was right to vote for them just because it wasn’t my favourites, cause everyone of them had a winning performance. Good point. At least TRY and go as far back as when the 12-point system started (1975). I’ll bet my horse money that there are people on this board old enough to have watched that contest…

…Or, at the very least, go back to when they limited the minimum age to 16 (1990?).

Denmark 2000 (argh), Estonia 2001 and Azerbaijan 2011 were the most undeserved by far. Latvia 2002 was bad but, let’s face it, it was the only one that stood out in an otherwise very forgettable year. Russia 2008 was probably fixed and the stage presentation was ridiculous. As a performer however, Dima Bilan is not an undeserved winner. My favourite list goes like this: 1. Austria 2014 2. Turkey 2003 3. Serbia 2007 4. Sweden 2012 5. Germany 2010 6. Norway 2009 7. Definitely Russia & Azerbaijan… I would rather have Azerbaijan won in 2009 instead or Norway, but Norway is definitely not undeserved winner… As for Russia they never had “that thing” with song or on stage… I don’t know how they won in 2008 because there were so many stronger songs from EX-Soviet diaspora and block to vote for (Ukraine and Armenia)… And just to make it clear, I do not getting hate on Russia because of the country, but I think their songs are generally very good, but always too generic or by-recipe to make them stand above others… Exception… Read more »

That would be Conchita Wurst. Every other year, there were reasons why particular song/package won: Denmark 2000 – the whole “love” package was OK, even though I loved Russia more. Estonia 2001 – no matter what you’ll say, that song was happy, the definition of a feel-good song. Latvia 2002 – Spanish influence, dresses undressed. 🙂 Turkey 2003 – feel the rhythm baby! Ukraine 2004 – epic + fresh & new. Greece 2005 – feel the rhythm, #2. Greek style! Finland 2006 – epic + fresh & new. Serbia 2007 – powerful, hands down! Russia 2008 – the song itself… Read more »
