Russia has just announced that the world famous Crimean prosecutor Natalia Poklonkaya will help select the Russian act that will compete at “Intervision“, the supposedly “heterosexual” alternative to Eurovision. As you’ll recall, conservative politcians asked that the country ressurect Intervision, the Soviet alternative to Eurovision that ran in the late 70s, in the aftermath Conchita Wurst’s victory at Eurovision.

Even though Russia has decided to take part in the forthcoming ESC, politicians clearly see Intervision as an opportunity to shore up their conservative base at home. Poklonkaya is an interesting choice. She was involved in the repression of the protest movements in Crimea, which will surely sit well with Vladimir Putin, who handpicked her to oversee the contest. (Her selection may sit well with the Tolmachevy Sisters, too).  The crime-busting Crimean prosecutor became famous for her appearances in press conferences, so much so that many artists created memes and Japanese animi cartoons of her:

Natalia Poklonskaya Russia Crimea

A spokesman for the Moscow Mass Communication Ministry is pleased that Poklonkaya will bring a bit of fairness to the selection process: “The participation of the prosecutor general will guarantee impartiality in the selection of winners.”

So in short, Putin has selected an attractive woman who opposes protests in Crimea and is depicted in Japanese anime cartoons to oversee the selection of a Russian song for the heterosexual alternative to Eurovision. You can’t make this stuff up. Suddenly Conchita the drag queen seems rather straightforward…

@Realist NOTE: ”Bullsh*tterist” is NOT a REAL WORD. Listen, you seem like a nice guy and stuff but you are extremely annoying on Wiwibloggs. You don’t speak the truth. As far as I am concerned, you have a lying problem. Conchita did not kill 50 people in the Balkans. How can he? Secondly, you did not write your last blog on Saturday night at 12 noon, it was 9.45pm at night. Another lie. Your spelling/English isn’t all that great either for someone from Ireland. I’m Irish as well and I am pretty sure my six year old brother would know… Read more »

Hi Realist I think what Tiggeh is trying to say is that, and I don’t want to hurt your feelings when I say this but homophobic people like you should be banned from forums, ESPECIALLY WiwiBloggs because it is a Eurovision website and ESC has a huge homosexual following. By the way, and I am only being realistic and saying what everyone else is thinking, but you are not a realist. You’re far from it. 😀 Right goodnight. (By the way, if you don’t see any replies from me all of next week, it is because I will be away… Read more »

If Natalia is there to oversee the voting process to ensure there’s no corruption (lolz!) then I can understand her appointment. If she’s there because she’s a hottie who’s caught Putin’s eye (lolz!), I can also understand her appointment.

Oh, Intervision! It’s going to be fun.

Yeah, that would be good. Saginish is pretty good. It is in Russian but still.

Does Kazakhstan know about Dima Bilan?

Here is what I want for Intervision 2014:

Kazakhstan: Rin’go (Saginish is pretty good.)
China: Cao Fujia (ABU TV Song Festival 2012)
Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov
Japan: Tomohisa Yamashita (Listen to Daite Senorita.)
Belarus: TEO (Maybe a song about Carrot cake this time.)
South Korea: TVXQ (ABU TV Song Festival 2012.)
Armenia: Aram MP3 (Can his song be titled ”All Alone”.)
Latvia: Aarzemnieki (They can sing about moving back to their home country.)
