Gréta Salóme & Jónsi

The Icelandic violin beauty Greta Salóme, who sang for Iceland at Eurovision 2012 in Baku, has signed a contract with Disney Enterprises. She will spend the next two months performing for passengers on the Disney cruise ship, which sails twice a week between Florida and the Bahamas. Greta, who departed for Florida today, is clearly thrilled to be at sea. Here’s what she wrote on her Facebook page on Wednesday evening:

It basically says that all preparations for the cruise are now complete, that she’s headed to Florida on Thursday, that she’ll be in the Bahamas by Saturday, and that she’s gonna see all her friends in Iceland again in September.

And before you ask, the answer is no. She will not be dressed as a mermaid with Minnie Mouse ears, belching out “Part of Your World” to whomever chooses to listen. No no: Greta will be performing her own material! Nothing more, nothing less.

Greta says it’s a sweet deal—and one born from Iceland’s chilly climes. She was battling the wind and snow one day in February, and thought to herself, whilst tending to her frostbite, that there had to be something different out there. So she went online. “I simply applied and got hired,” she’s said publicly. “This will be a great change. Can’t wait to try this out!”

Between gigs, she will have plenty of time to soak up the sun and to party like it’s 1999 on a Bahamanian beach. She will also work on new material…all while getting paid!

As you may remember, Greta released her latest single “Lifnar aftur við” a couple of weeks ago. And she promises, that there is more to come. Until then, it’s all sun and fun. Good luck Greta, and where can I sign up as an understudy…just in case?
