Austrian broadcaster ORF may have chosen Conchita Wurst via internal selection, but for 2015 they’re returning to a national final, with the competition selection process confirmed as running from January to March 2015.

Austria has favoured the national final format since they returned to Eurovision in 2011, but it hasn’t worked out so well for them, with Trackshittaz and Natália Kelly both failing to qualify in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

@Robyn What I meant about my statement is that Austria does not know how to choose the right song. They are much better off with internal selection. I mean, they selected the Trackshitters to represent them in 2012.

It would be no shock if Austria came last as the host nation!!! 🙁

I hope for a song which is not a ballad and not a joke entry.

Austria is a country gave the best song of 2014, and I hope their victory will improve their future entries. Don’t want to see Trackshittaz.

I hope for Falco Luneau actually, from the 2013 national final. He is a friend of Conchita also – from the past days, they were the members of same boyband.

Is Austria getting a Eurovision country? They may be the next Sweden, Denmark or Norway. Give us a cool Österreich rockt dem…!

@dave

One of the worst years was 2006 by all means.

I love everything about 2007. Graphical motto (reference to marimekko), yes stage wasn’t big but I wasn’t smaller than the one in Belgrad (when most of performens openly complained about it) – but I like it, hosts – classy !, Apocalyptica as an interval act – epic by all means. Opening with Lordi was also great. Not mention that song-quality (uneven though) was great – amazing variety. I am coming back to songs (Finland,Hungary,Sweden,Iceland,Germany,Serbia,Bosnia,Netherlands,Estonia,Russia,Moldova,Georgia,Slovenia,Croatia,Bulgaria,Czech Republic,Israel,Cyprus,Lithuania) from that year the most often.

Internal selection or national final, what matters is the quality of the candidate pool. Either way, there’s probably been an upsurge in attention for the contest in Austria since their victory, so surely they’ll get a fair number of well-qualified artists wanting to participate. And yes, davve is right – a national final absolutely makes sense given that Austria is hosting. It can help them build up hype for the contest inside the country itself. @Charles: There’s no way to know that for sure, regarding the theoretical reception of the song if it weren’t sung by Conchita, since there are… Read more »

You must be kidding me. ESC 2007 is one of the best in last decade.

Did Giorgos’ family pick him with an internal selection when he was born, because he sounds like a vommiting thing. Conchita is one of the most beautiful symbols on our shitty Earth. Well, I wait for an amazing show from Austria @davve. Their story sounds familiar with Germany and Germans had the best hosting ever to me. I believe that ORF have an excellent show – the budget is 25 million Euro (10 million more than last year’s cool Danish show, includes a new arena from a shipyard) as I seen on an Austrian newspaper which a friend of me… Read more »

It isnt strange that ORF wants to do a national final. High ratings and interest now that Austria has won and will host this contests. My biggest concern is that Eurovision overall is not popular in Austria. Part because of the overall results of the country, and the viewers disinterest. Will Austria be able to host this event really well.. hmm we will see. For example Finlands hosting of ESC 2007 was quite weak. Small stage so the artists could not perform however they wanted. a huge arena which made the stage look even smaller..and just weird. weak presenters..etc etc…… Read more »

Unless ORF has another drag queen. transsexual or a gay boyband, etc. … why should they do another internal selection? It was all about Conchita not his song … had it been sung at a national final and by a regular performer with no “LGBT” tag written on his or her forehead … no one would care and the words boring and ballad would again be walking hand in hand like marionettes by fans. And why would Austria want to win again? Another boring winning pattern a la-Ireland? Is that what you want? Just enjoy the music that will come… Read more »

ORF obviously don’t want to win again next year, because national final doesn’t seem to work for them.
This could mean though that Vienna 2015 may be a big budget show!

I prefer national selection for Austria. The last time they did Internal selection, they chose a vommiting thing(Conchita).
