Ten acts sang their hearts out, but in the end it was Nadezhda Misyakova who won over the Belarusian jury and public with her song “Sokol” (Hawk). Now she’ll sing at Junior Eurovision 2014 in Malta!

The song offers a little bit of everything, mixing folk, R&B and some mature balladry. At times it has a real tribal feeling, one emphasised by the mystical dancing and ethnic couture. Yes, the lead singer is portraying a bird.

Nadezhda actually tied with two other acts—Anna Zaitseva and Ksenia & Pavel Lashchevsky. The jury voted again, and Nadezhda came out on top.

Are you pleased with Belarus’ decision?

I like it! However, Sweden deserve a high place this year, especially after last year.

This is the first time in a long while that my favorite from a NF won it… Belarus is my #1 for now 🙂

As the song is the first since 2004 to be sung completely in Byelorussian, it is sort of a signal that Belarus is distancing itself from Russia. But this was my favourite

Funny how two of the three Belarusian-language songs (“Sokol” and “Geta moy lios”) made the top three, I’ve never seen that.

Anna Zaitseva deserved it!!!
She came 2nd last year, and this year again…
Only one song could be worser: Mister Perviy
2011 was the last year they had an amazing song. And this was Anna’s 3rd try, why don’t let you her win???
Sokol deserved one of the last places (at jesc) and at the nf the 9th. But why the jury voted for this?

This is beyond amazing, I’m so happy Nadezhda won. I would’ve though that Angelina would place higher than joint fourth, even though that’s still a good placing. I did feel a little bit bad for Anna when I saw her face after hearing she was the runner-up, her song was so good too.

In short, I think Belarus has an extremely good chance at winning JESC again this year. They’re part of a powerful voting bloc, and have an amazing song. If they could place 3rd last year with that, they can definitely win this year.
