As hardcore Junior Eurovision fans know, officials at the EBU have stated that the final list of participating countries should be out in September, and tomorrow is the official deadline for broadcasters to confirm their participation. Tweets from the official Junior Eurovision account @JuniorESCPress suggest that Azerbaijan and Moldova will not participate, while Spain remains a maybe.

Here’s the exchange, which involves two curious Eurovision fans tweeting at the good folks of junioreurovision.tv:

junior eurovision 2014 spain azerbaijan moldova

We’re sad that it’s “unlikely” Moldova and Azerbaijan will return to the contest this year in Malta. Both of Azerbaijan’s entries oozed adorbs, and Moldova always sends strong voices. Sigh. We’ll keep our fingers crossed they return for 2015!

Why are you people so negative? The junior contest gives these young kids the opportunity of a lifetime. Why is a stupid idea? I can see why Moldova is pulling out – in the past 3 years they’ve been working on a tight budget to participate in JESC. As for Azerbaijan, I think it’s because of their “low” rankings. Anything other than a top 5 or anything below Armenia is a massive loss for Baku which is why they’re withdrawing. Only if they could apply that logic to the adult contest – one less dictatorship.

I don’t know why people easily said “oh it’s a stupid decision to not participate blabla” when they don’t know the actual condition of the country. Get your facts straight and you can be able to say your opinion!

That’s good for them to stay away from the junior competition. They better be focusing on more important things. Junior Eurovision these past years have made children to act like someone whose age is beyond them. I still don’t see any benefit from the contest except it has successfully pleased Eurovision fans’ appetite for another “Eurovision” thing.

One less problem to deal with ..
Actually when I think about it … the whole Junior has always been the most pathetic thing ever to come up from the EBU sleeves … so it’s really pointless who takes part of it or not. These kids deserved something way better than being in a competition … set up by adults.

I support Azerbaijan’s decision (unofficial yet though) to withdraw. Junior Eurovision is a huge scandal. This is called child abuse. You can’t make little kids wear shiny dresses like a bunch of circus monkeys and categorize them as winners and losers at the end of the day. All they care is money, they don’t even think about traumas they’re leaving on those kids. I can’t even imagine how awful those who come the last must feel. Thanks, EBU for making kids feel like losers for the rest of their lives!

I wasn’t really expecting Moldova to participate. Last year they barely made it to Kiev so this is no shock to me. Azerbaijan is a little shocking though. They love Eurovision so much there so I’m surprised they’d withdraw, it’s probably due to the low placings they’ve gotten. Also, I doubt Spain will take part considering Vlad said they were in negotiations in August and now there’s only one day left and we’ve heard nothing. Also, Vlad said “it looks like we’ll have 16 participating countries,” the other day.

I don’t understand. Why Azerbaijan and Moldova are unlikely to participate in 2014? Rustam should represent Azerbaijan again. Denis already has a song for Moldova.

Why? That is just plain stupid!
Moldova just had to say yes and they had already a song by Denis Midone (*or something)
And why would Azerbaijan withdraw?
And there goes the perfect JESC
