Back on September 29, Eurovision 2007 winner Marija Serifovic sent out a Tweet that made us put down our martinis and ponder the possibility that she might return to ESC.
A da idem na taj Eurosong da pobedim jos jednom ????????????????????????????????
— Marija Serifovic (@futomaki) September 29, 2014
In English that roughly means: “And go to the Eurovision Song Contest to win again”.
The emoticons are more difficult to interpret. Are they crying because it’s a preposterous idea and it’s making her laugh too hard? Or are those tears of joy at the chance to conquer Europe again?
According to Kurir, a Serbian tabloid, Marija is, in fact, already on a shortlist to compete at a national selection. Yes, following reports that Serbia has found the money to participate in Vienna, the tabloid is suggesting they have found enough funds to stage a national selection, which will consist of three artists, including Marija. They claim she would sing a song by Vladimir Graic, the man behind her winning Eurovision entry “Molitva”, if selected.
Interestingly, the paper also claims that producers may give Marija’s spot to her brother.
Kurir has previously reported that Bojana Stamenov, the Serbian Aretha Franklin, will also compete. She started her career performing in amusement parks before rising to fame on the show Ja Imam Talenat.

What do you think of the news? Should Marija return? And what about Bojana?
I believe that Eurovision Song Contest winners should never return to compete(I mean the singers).Of course all of them constitute the largest part of the history of Eurovision. But,since they have nothing better to do or prove it would be wise to remain in our hearts as winners.Composers and lyricists are less exposed to publicity,so I wouldn’t bother see them writting new songs for other artists…
I’d welcome her back. Former winners may have mixed fortunes when they return, but they’re part of the Eurovision legacy. It’s about time one of them did well again to prove it isn’t always a terrible idea.
Nope, she is a goddess, but a former winner should NEVER return to the big stage! That can never go well (unless you´re Johnny Logan). Fact.
Here in Serbia Kurir is known as the lowest possible newspaper… Dont trust it… but I would like to see Maria again
No, I do not really like her and I didn’t like Molitva either.
I am sorry 🙁
(By “they later refuted” I mean Esma and Lozano later refuted.)
Can Kurir be taken seriously? They were the same newspaper that reported the rumors that Esma and Lozano made homophobic statements, which they later refuted. Nobody else, of course, backed up Kurir on that story.
I’m loving this Bojana lady a lot more! What a great voice, she’s the whole package, good song and a good performance during that audition, I would be very much excited if she went to represent Serbia, rather than Marija going again.
if it is true then, welcome back marija. please sing a more modern song this time
Interesting…
WOOOOOW Totally freaked out in the best way by Bojana’s audition. Music being played live by her own band? Soul music? The Serbian Aretha? One of biggest Chaka Khan’s classics? Perfect! She’s has conquered me! This is why love music so much … 🙂 As for Marija: she should return … why not? So many have done it in the past I see no reason for her to do not it. She is another huge example of a talented singer with a remarkable voice and her 2007 victory (the only one worth since Katrina in 1997) was totally deserved against… Read more »
Wouldn’t say no to Marija representing Serbia again, she is very talented and Molitva was a good song, but I don’t think it could happen again for her for a number of reasons, Firstly, returning artists never really do as well on their second attempt (ahem, Jedward,) it rarely swings the other way, but that doesn’t mean it wont happen (Johnny Logan, Dima Bilan) secondly, Serbia’s national broadcaster was struggling to secure the cost of participating this year following a 2 year absence due to finances, I doubt Belgrade would afford to host in 2016. Best of luck to Marija… Read more »
No Marija should not return. She’s won already, give someone else a chance. I love her but I think it’s a different Serbian artist’s time to shine.
