Last year RSI — Switzerland’s Italian-language broadcaster — won the country’s national selection with Sebalter. They’re hoping to field the country’s Eurovision singer for a second year in a row and today unveiled the three acts that will continue on the road to Switzerland’s national final. They are Deborah Bough, Elias ft. Zero in On, and Vad Vuc. As you’ll recall, Sebalter formally sang with Vad Vuc, a folk-rock group, before launching his solo career.

In the next phase—the so-called “Expert Check”—these three acts will sing alongside nine candidates from German-language broadcaster SRF and 6 candidates from French-language broadcaster RTS. The experts will evaluate the song, the vocals and the artist’s stage presence. Out of these 18 candidates, the jury will select three for SRF, two for RTS and one for RSI, giving us the six finalists.

RSI Eurovision finalists (Swiss-Italian broadcaster)

Deborah Bough – 1, 2, 3 Take Me Back To 23

Elias ft. Zero in On – Your Perfume

Vad Vuc – Cocktail E Fantasmi

“Your Perfume” is reminiscent of Keane (and that’s a very good thing), but the production isn’t so clean. I also can’t understand many of the words he’s singing – some better enunciation is in order. It’s still good.

“1, 2, 3, Take Me Back to 23” reminds me of Kate Ryan and Svetlana Loboda, so I have no complaints there. The musical backing to “Cocktail e fantasmi” is fabulous, so, once again, I’m complaint-free. I’m rather sure that I heard “Your Perfume” on the soundtrack to every great indie rom-com I’ve ever seen, so yet again, I have nothing bad to say about it at all. If RSI gets the ticket, then we may have a winner on our hands.

Vad Vuc’s song is really weak. It’s only the music that makes it bearable, and then it’s a song contest. Deborah Bough’s sits on the line of good crossing into cheesy, with slight hints of Jessie J randomly slotted in. Not particularly fond of Elias’ song either based partly on the fact how can you feel perfume? None of them are that bad, but none suited to Eurovision in my opinion. They need to find something new or clean up a song. There’s a lot on the online platform that have potential but just need a bit of editing if… Read more »

I think they’re all pretty good, but I’m not sure if any of this would fit to the Eurovision stage.

They all sound really good and I would’t mind it if any of them got sent to Vienna. RSI seems to always have the strongest selection of songs even though they field the smallest amount of contestants, ironically.
1- Cocktail e fantasmi
2- 123, Take Me Back to 23
3- Your Perfume
