This evening, at the Opening Ceremony of Junior Eurovision 2014 inside the Verdala Palace, the 16 acts vying for the win are participating in a draw to determine whether they will sing in the first half or second half of Saturday’s show. Producers will use this to determine the running order within each part of Saturday’s live finale. Malta’s Federica Falzon will draw her actual starting position. This is because she’s from the host country, and producers do not want to appear biased.

You can watch the red carpet and opening ceremony live from 18:40 CET at this link.

As the host country, Malta had a privilege to choose its position. Federica Falzon will perform as 15th.

Two other countries also drew the first and last starting position. Belarus will sing first, while Netherlands will sing last.

It stinks how early Belarus and Bulgaria are performing. I still think they’ll get a good place though, just not first. I think this opens up the door for Cyprus, Slovenia and especially the Netherlands to do very well, and I think one of those three will win. However, you never know and I wish all the participants the best of luck!

Interesting way of deciding the running order – in particular, making the start and end of the show random draws. They should consider something similar for ESC, so that nobody can complain that they were slated by the producer to go first or that someone else got to go last.

Last year Malta was also second last and won the contest, what a coincidence! I think it’s very likely she’ll win

I think Armenia should open the show. Their song is fun, and uplifiting and sort of blends in with the whole Malta = people of the sun theme. Personal favorites to win: Cyprus, Armenia, Bulgaria
