On Sunday evening, during the running order draw, we learned that Belarus will open the Junior Eurovision 2014 final and that the Netherlands will close it. That may sound familiar to hardcore JESC fans. That’s because in 2012 these two countries drew the exact same places!

If we look back to 2012, it was a year full of new participating countries: Albania, Azerbaijan and Israel. That also sounds familiar. This year we suddenly welcome Slovenia, Italy and Montenegro to the contest. Interestingly, none of the countries that joined in 2012 are competing this year.

Coincidence? We wonder.

For those who don’t know: two years ago the winner was the young and talented Anastasiya Petryk with her song “Nebo” (Sky). She’s from Ukraine.

Maybe it’s written in the sky that this year the three Ukrainian girls Marta, Amaliya and Sofiya, who call themselves “Sympho-Nick”, will take the crown with their song “Pryyde Vesna” (Spring Will Come). (And maybe in the spring we will see our beloved Ukraine back at the adult Eurovision)!

A Second Coincidence

Looking further into the past, we see another coincidence.

When Junior Eurovision was held for the first time, in 2003, Croatia performed second and won. That year Malta performed fifteenth and the Netherlands performed sixteenth — just like this year. Coincidence again? Perhaps that means that Bulgaria’s Krisia, Ibrahim and Hasan, who will perform second, have a trophy waiting for them at the other end of the night…

A Third Coincidence

Other times the winners win in same position as the winner won the year before. The last spots in the running order have always been lucky. In 2005, 2006 and 2007,  the winner sang last. Last year we saw Gaia Cauchi perform her song second last and then win. This year Malta performs again as second last! Could Frederica make it a double for the small island?

Will we have a coincidental winner or will it be the start of something new at Junior Eurovision? Stay tuned!

In 2003 the recap was in the opposite of the running order, that’s why Croatia won.

No,it doesn’t predict the final result for Bulgaria, because they won’t finish second by no way! They will be maybe behind 5th place. And how could you compare the great voice of Anastasia Petric and her amazing artistic talent to the midding but high self esteemed Krisia?! Ridiculous.

Keep in mind that this is from someone who’s iffy on Junior Eurovision but sees it as an augur for Eurovision-Eurovision, but a Ukraine or Bulgaria victory would be an excellent push over the top for either country to come to the 2015 contest.
