Kitty Brucknell has revealed the BBC barred her from singing at Eurovision because she appeared on X-Factor. The Swiss Eurovision hopeful also revealed that the BBC approached her before she was snubbed.
“Because I was on The X Factor, the BBC won’t entertain the idea of having me. They’ve said, not officially, but unofficially, ‘No, you were on The X Factor‘. I think it’s a conflict of interests with The Voice, so I’ve heard. I’ve asked a lot of people.”
Andy Abraham the runner-up of series 2 did represent the UK in 2008 but finished last in Belgrade. He was the first and to date is the last X-Factor act to have sung in the ESC.
Kitty is currently bidding to represent Switzerland in Vienna with “Yearning”, which you can hear below. And she says she’s happy to be part of the Swiss national selection process.
“The UK doesn’t take it seriously and they don’t want to win, so I’m happy to fly the flags for two countries. I can represent Switzerland, which seems like a cool country, and I can represent the UK in a weird way and people can vote for me.”
Asked on whether she has ever visited the country, she replied:
“No! It’s too expensive! It’s about £5 a cup of coffee! My grandad was educated there and it was his favourite country, so that’s kind of cool.”

Kitty finished 6th on The X-Factor in 2011, yes? Why don’t the U.K. serve up Little Mix this time around? They won the XF that year.
She just comes off petty. The BBC does want to win, that’s why they didn’t pick her.
Hope she does get picked for Switzerland, then doesn’t get to the final, and the UK wins with a record score. Just to screw her over.
I hope Switzerland reject her purely on the basis of she’s never even fucking been there.
I’m so glad the BBC rejected her, she was desperately annoying on The X Factor let alone anything else.
She shouldn’t go around changing herself just for what SHE thinks is right in the right country, just be yourself! You don’t have to be cool or weird. I think the UK’s rejection has been good, since they’re looking for a serious artist to back-up Molly from last year, Kitty doesn’t have the best reputation. People would expect a “show”.
Or maybe they barred her from the final because her song’s crap? Like, not even the “point-and-laugh” crap like Scooch was, but more of the “oh god this song is terrible please make it stop” crap.
I still don’t think Kitty will make it to the Swiss final, let alone the Expert Check
