Last Wednesday Macedonia’s Skopje Fest had the honour of kicking off the national final season for Eurovision 2015. After the points from international juries and the Macedonian public were counted, X Factor Adria winner Daniel Kajmakoski won the ticket to Vienna with the song “Lisja Esenski”.

Then the drama started. The producers of the show discovered irregularities with the televote. In short, Macedonian police identified people suspected of criminal association and computer fraud in connection with the results for the first three places. Nevertheless, the state broadcaster has not made a formal announcement that it will change the results of Skopje Fest….yet. Daniel has stated that he is already preparing for the contest.

Regardless of what emerges from that investigation, one question lingers: Was Daniel Kajmakoski a worthy winner with his song “Lisja Esenski”? Or did you enjoy the song from former Eurovision star (and Tijana’s sister!) Tamara Todevska, who won the jury vote? Or was there some other song which you were hoping to see in Vienna? Vote in our poll below and then let us know your thoughts in the comments section.

“Lisja Esenski” lyrics

Eh da možev jas da te pregram sega i zasekogaš
Pa da se razbudam oci da otvoram
Da vidam deka živeam
Me slediš sekoj den vo mojot svet zaspivaš vo mislive
I site zborovi premalku se

Kako jasno sonce ti mi izgrevaš
Vo ova srce koga se naseluvaš
Sekoj den pokraj tebe soba bez vreme
Vo koja tonam so tebe
Kako cuvar na sni koga zaspivaš ti te pokrivam so stihovi
Koga životot mi beše taka siv vo boja ti go napravi
Sega lebdime sami kon ljubovta slobodni ko lisja esenski

I nema doždovi što ke izmijat tragi tvoi na dušava
Ni beli snegovi ne ke gi pokrijat stapkite na ljubovta
Toa e tvoe se i neka ostane vkusot tvoj na usnive
Se neka pomine no jas i ti ne

Kako jasno sonce ti mi izgrevaš
Vo ova srce koga se naseluvaš
Sekoj den pokraj tebe soba bez vreme
Vo koja tonam so tebe
Kako cuvar na sni koga zaspivaš ti te pokrivam so stihovi
Koga životot mi beše taka siv vo boja ti go napravi
Sega lebdime sami kon ljubovta slobodni ko lisja esenski

“Autumn Leaves” lyrics translation

Oh If I could hug you
Now and forever
So I wake up
Open my eyes
To see that I live
You follow me every day
In my world
You sleep in my thoughts
All those words
It’s not enough

As a bright Sun
You’re rising
This heart you inhabit
Each day beside you is a room with no time
In what I sink with you
As guardian of dreams
When you fall asleep
I cover you with lyrics

When my life was gray
In color you made it
Now we float
Free to love
Like the autumn leaves

And there is no rain
That can wash up
Your traces in my soul
Nor white snows can cover it
Footsteps of love

That is yours
And let it stay
The taste of your lips

So let it pass
But you and I – NO

As a bright Sun
You’re rising
This heart you inhabit
Each day beside you is a room with no time
In what I sink with you

As guardian of dreams
When you fall asleep
I cover you with lyrics

When my life was gray
In color you made it
Now we float
Free to love
Like the autumn leaves
Like the autumn leaves
Like the autumn leaves

The televote fraud was NOT in connection with the first three places. It’s really a shame they tarnished Daniel’s victory in such a way. This was an apparent ongoing investigation. Funny how they decided to break it the day after Skopje Fest, but these accused names have been monitored not just with Skopje Fest but other music festivals as well.

As far as the poll. Tamara’s song was completely forgettable. I don’t have a clue how it got to be second.

Tamara’s song and performance were exquisite, Danijel’s were mediocre. He won because of his fame – and because of the irregularities – not for the song. Tamara should have won. If the result goes unchallenged despite corruption, it’ll dissaude decent artists like Tamara and others from competing in future years. I’m also sad to hear Egi’s management was involved in the corruption, as she’s a brilliant artist and she doesn’t deserve to be tarnished with this, they’ve let her down.

Actually none off the songs in Macedonia deserved victory. I preferred Tadara over the off-key singing lad with the only uptempo song. He and Junior Eurovision proove that if you are male in a comptition with 15 female singers, you have the best chances of winning…. as the girls will split votes between them.

In a rather amusing bit of irony, I just voted from multiple devices by accident; for viewers, please remove one vote from “No; I liked Tamara more!” in your mental counts while you interpret the poll results.

Whilst tamara sung really well, I fear that it would not qualify because it is a bit boring. I prefer Daniel but his song needs a bit of tweaking and I want to hear an English version. All in all, I think Malta has a better national selection this year.

Both Daniel and Tamara performed well 3 days ago, but if I could choose, Daniel really should have won. His entry for Macedonia is strong.

I liked both songs but thought Daniel’s was better suited for Eurovision. If Tamara won her song would’ve been simply regarded as one of those “ballads in a foreign language” by non-ESC obsessors and probably wouldn’t of done as well. Daniel’s on the other hand had much more universal appeal I think. However, I believe Viktorija Loba definitely should’ve won.
