The Czech Republic will return to the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna in May 2015.

Czech Television announced the return after a five year absence. Marketa Stinglova, Manager of International Content Project Center commented, “After three entries in the previous years we hope to offer Europe a top quality Czech song.”

The Czech Republic appeared at Eurovision from 2007, 2008 and 2009 but failed to qualify on every occasion. Poor viewing figures and a lack of public interest in the Contest were cited as the reasoning for the withdrawal from Oslo 2010. The same reasoning has kept Czech Republic out of Eurovision 2011-2014.

Not anymore though. For 2015, Czech television will use an internal selection to decide the Czech Republic’s act. A jury of music professionals will pick the act from five entries specially written by professional composers. We feel Prague is getting ruul, ruul serious this year!

The last Czech entry in 2009 was Gipsy.cz’s Aven Romale which finished in 18th place with nil points (yikes!). The result may have been unfortunate but that performance was unforgettable.

For Marketa it seems the Czech Republic’s record is firmly in the past: “Czech Television is happy to be back again in that wonderful competition.”

Team Wiwi are happy to have Czech Republic back too – the more the merrier.

Yay! More the merrier! I hope it’s good though, I loathe both songs that have been decided thus far! Now come back Slovakia!

They should sing a ballad song this time. I bet if there’s a higher chance for Czech Republic to qualify to the grand finals next year, they’d be announced last in the votings like how Conchita was announced last in the second semi-final voting just this year. It builds a playful tension to us viewers.

I hope they do better this time. Their result in 2009 was unfortunate, but in retrospect unsurprising.

Could not be more happy with this decision, welcome back Czech Republic 🙂 I always felt CZ never made an effort at Eurovision but I am expecting a great renaissance plus, Prague would be an excellent host city should Czech Republic ever win

If the Czech Republic does well, I’m 99% sure Slovakia will come back next year. Maybe they’ll even reverse their decision as well for this year.

OMG THANK GOODNESS. Slovakia should come back now , I mean ffs its in a neighboring city! Hopefully Bulgaria will come back now and make the number of countries 40 but after BH withdrawn, I think that this is unlikely

Great to see them back! I’m very happy about that! If Luxembourg will ever return, all of Germanys neighbour countries take part in Eurovision 😀 Hope to see a good song from Czech Republic in 2015!

Great, and surprising news. I think they have increased the deadline for countries to decide if they will takepart. Hopefully with such a shocker return, more countries will change their mind and take part.

I dont say that Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijn is their neighbours . In 3 year from 2007 to 2009 that 3 countries get high marks or points from Czech, and maybe some points wili be go in 2015 and to their neigbours Austria, Germany, Poland.

Probably Austria, which borders with the Czech Republic inspired them. Since 2005 until 2013 Austria once advanced to the finals (in 2011) and took a very low place in the final. The result of 2014 was so complete opposite of their previous achievements. Much the same was indeed the Netherlands, which took the 2nd place this year.
