Marco Mengoni has released the video for his new single ‘Guierriero‘.
Mengoni represented Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 in Malmö. In the video he becomes a schoolboy’s comic book ‘Warrior’ hero and gives the boy the confidence to stand up for himself.
The dramatic clip was filmed in mountainous Trentino in Northern Italy and in the midst of a rainstorm.
Marco’s teary eyes reflect the weather. The boy’s storyline tug on your heartstrings with ease. Marco’s vocal complete the emotional feel of the video and despite the language barrier express clearly the subtext of the song.
In contrast to ‘L’essenziale‘, ‘Guerriero’ features pronounced dub step through the second half of the song and though the vocal remains in the trademark haunting monotone, the rougher vocal delivery given by Mengoni sets this a part as his most emotive effort to date.
The dizzying dubstep breakdown after the bridge ends with the boy responding to the bully’s taunts with a hug and walking off: the better person.
The beautiful visual and haunted vocal makes this beyond powerful.
