After all the drama from last night’s semi-final, we returned the Marsa Shipbuilding stage for the moment y’all have been waiting for: the grand final of the Malta Eurovision Song Contest! Co-hosted by Daniel Chircop and Lyona Xuereb Gatt, the remaining 14 acts all performed for one last time, but there could only be one winner — and it’s Amber! She won in a landslide to become Malta’s representative in Vienna with “Warrior”. The song is composed by Elton Zarb & Matt “Muxu” Mercieca, the team behind Malta’s 2013 Junior Eurovision winning entry “The Start” from Gaia Cauchi.

Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2015 Final Results

Just as it was from the semi-final, an expert panel of five juries each evaluated the entries, which makes up 83% of the overall vote. The other 17% comes from tonight’s televoting results. Amber made it a clean sweep by receiving the maximum 12 points from all 5 juries and the televoting public. Our poll makes it clear that our readers agree.

Guest Acts

Eurovision winner Conchita Wurst opened the final with “Rise Like a Phoenix”, and she was also a guest performer later during the show with her brand new single “Heroes”.

Firelight represented the country at Copenhagen earlier this year, finishing 23rd in the final with 32 points. They also made a guest appearance, performing their Eurovision entry “Coming Home”, followed by two of their new singles “Talk Dirty” and “Backdrop of Life”.

What do you think of tonight’s winner? Do you agree with the results?

Unfortunately we have to live among people who don’t know any other way than to critisize everything. These same people will never say anything positive about any song, and will have no favourite unless there will be some other reason rather than anything they like. To be honest before the semis I never noticed Amber’s song, I had 3 or 4 different favourites, but on the night it was definatley the most outstanding song. I hope they will not make changes in the choreography, Amber dominates the stage enough by herself, she will blow the arena in Vienna in a… Read more »

@Adnan: Cristina Scarlat’s “Wild Soul” (Moldova 2014), yes? The music to “Warrior” is quite similar to this one, as it is to a few songs here in the U.S. That is why I think the music needs a makeover, lest everyone else recognize the similarities and this one ends up getting lost in the storm that is likely to come to Vienna.

@ESCFan: The reason for the 3 judges from other countries (Sweden, Italy and Armenia) is obviously because the Maltese wanted to get a snapshot of what the juries from other countries might think, with regard to who and what Malta is sending. Again, the countries who hold national qualifying contests can’t just simply send who and what THEY like; they must also consider sending who and what the OTHER countries are most likely to give their 12-, 10- and 8-point scores to.

I don t think that Malta wili be in TOP 10 in final , i think from 12 to 16 place in final. Only with Lawrence Gray – “The One That You Love” they maybe be in TOP 10 ( from 8 to 10 place) like Norway this year with Silent Tears.

I really like Amber’s song and I can see it comfortably qualifying and doing well in the final. There is so much potential with this song and I think they can further raise the bar to create a contender for the Eurovision title!!

Could it have been more predictable? The song is certainly not bad but i do not think that it will do well in the eurovision. Malta is a very small country with a great amount of potential when it comes to music. However unfortunately enough the country seems like it is stuck on ballads and similar types of songs. A simple great song is not enough to win the eurovision. A song that stands out; now that sounds more like a winning song. Just look at all of the winning songs. Should i mention the lordi, euphoria, wild dancers and… Read more »

Wow, I really wonder if you guys heard the same song as I did. This song is beyond average and really annoying. It will end in the bottom 3 of the semi for sure. Worst Maltese entry in years! Macedonia is far superior so far.

I really like the song! Sounds modern but she should practise her voice! But she still was my favourite with Glen Vella! Both made a good show!

Just watched through some of the live performances… now I understand how Glen Vella came in third. Wow. He and his dancers put on a really good show. Daniel Testa deserved much better than the crowd gave him – but Malta shows so many commercials, I wouldn’t be surprised if the audience had gotten tired from waiting too long. Anyway, he had one of the best vocal performances of the night. 12, Baker Street was also great but probably too subtle for the crowd and the jury to appreciate. I swear it’s inspired by Billy Joel. Chris Grech could’ve sounded… Read more »

In Malta 5 people determines who will represent their peoples country (the people only have 1 share of their say) so 5 people will choose the winner! (some of them also not either from Malta) they don’t care what their country citizens think!

Hmmmmm? I don’t know why, but when I listened to this song, I felt like it was a combination of all of the best songs from the ESC from the past 5 years, plus a little bit of Sia’s chandelier. I hear a little bit of Aram mp3/dupstep+euphoria+Sanna’s undo+chandelier= a fairly good song for Malta. Bravo. I don’t know, it’s just how I feel.

This song will be ‘one of much other’ not standing out in ESC. The L-Ahwa stand out have energy and they should get Malta some positives for the country in ESC but Amber will like Israel, Estonia in ESC good but again ‘one of so much other’

I think this is the best one for Malta too. Plenty of time to adjust it to perfection and would be nice for them to get their first win, they definitely deserve one.

It’s a really nice song… Amber was my favorite, and her live performance was pretty good. Sure, the structure of the song is a little messy but I’m sure they will be able to work on that for Vienna. Additionally Amber needs to work on her pronunciation, but otherwise she’s fantastic. Well done Malta!

Liven up the chorus, and polish up the vocals, same improvements needed by FYROM. But overall, a good song. Without knowing the strength of the field this year, I’d say it should qualify comfortably enough.

How on earth can any of you put a place on a song with only two songs out already. It makes no sense. Make a judgement on the quality now, but contest placing, no, not until all the songs are decided.
P.S. I love this song.

By the way guys (I think this is right) – It could be the case that ‘Warrior’ might not even be the song in Vienna. TVM changed guidelines this year, so they can change the song slightly – or use a totally new one. I hope they just clean it up and keep it, but it’s very possible that they can produce something very new, since it’s months until May.
Good luck Amber 🙂 Please don’t let them change you or the song too much!

1. This is a strong song, audio wise. 2. She has some troubles pronouncing the words, even though she HAS the voice. 3. When she shouts BREAK the first time, I only hear FREE all the time, not just in the second time shouting. 4. Of course it will qualify (if nothing shockingly happens with the other countries entries). 5. This is similar to several songs, from both “up the ladder” or “bottom of the ladder” from previous contests. It depends on her staging. 6. Powerful song, overall, and I hope that they will do some changes in order to… Read more »

Yes! Just what I wanted! Congratulations Malta! I think you made the right choice. With some arrangements it will be perfect. I don’t care how it will fare in May. What I know is that I like it and if able to I will vote for it. Didn’t get the fuss about “Rush” though. Chris Grech placed satisfactory, but I wouldn’t have a problem to see him winning. The biggest injustice of this year’s national final was for me Raquel’s non qualification and the 14th place of “12,Baker Street”. Both were lovely. Anyway 9/10 for Amber’s “Warrior” for now!

@No name: Wait for the final musical and vocal arrangement for this song. If they stick with what they have today, and too many other contenders aim straight for the gut, she might have a problem finishing in the top-half of the final standings.

The studio version did absolutely nothing for me, but I was completely stunned when it was performed live. A worthy winner and my top two was also Malta’s top two. Do I think this is a winning song? No. But do I think it can qualify and get a respectable placing? Of course.

@Alex: Like Gianluca’s last song, it was far different from what everyone else was offering. Unfortunately, either the people didn’t buy it this time, or they and the jury thought it was too soon to give Gianluca another ticket to ESC and felt that someone else should get that chance.

It’s an okay song in my opinion, the only and very big problem for me is that she drags out the words in the refrain, and it sounds such so ugly. Also I almost don’t hear what she sings, I realized today at the final that she sings “Break through the silence” and not “Break through the salad”. I guess it’ll grow anyway, it’s only november.

Deserved winner, but a top 10 in Vienna? Not sure. I´m happy that she won though, her performance gave me goosebumps 🙂 She was my winner at the end too.

However, some song like 12, Baker Street and Beautiful To Me were unbelieveably robbed in my opinion. 🙁

CookyMonzta

@Jak: New music could push this song up the ladder on points in Vienna. As it is today, she could have trouble against musical arrangements, or balladeering, or both, that are far more daring and far less obvious.
