Following a somewhat controversial submission process, the Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has announced that they received a total of 258 entries for Söngvakeppni 2015, the platform which will be used to select the country’s Eurovision act for Vienna. This number has already been reduced to 12, with the artists and songs being revealed at a later stage.

Söngvakeppni will kick off with two semi finals, one on 31 January and another on 7 February. The final will be held on 14 February – yes, Valentine’s Day. It’ll be a night of tough choices, stay in and feed your Eurovision habit or go out and keep your other half happy. For the sake of some peace and quiet you could always send them off to Fifty Shades of Greywhich opens on the same night.

Pollapönk represented the country at Copenhagen earlier this year with their entry “No Prejudice”, finishing 15th in the final with 58 points.

It’ll be quite an interesting show if GusGus entered and made the final 12.

Iceland are good at choosing dance songs (2008, 2010), so Iceland, please send a dance song and hopefully it won’t fall at the mercy of the voting

Hopefully they won’t choose a joke entry this year. I love everything about Iceland and it’s one of my favourite vacation spots, but the last two years have been very disappointing. Please go back to choosing songs like you did in 2012.
