It’s hotting up in Georgia, guys! Today Georgian Public Broadcaster GPB announced the five lucky acts who will participate in the national final on January 14. They are: Nina Sublatti, Misha Sulukhia, Eteri Beriashvili, Niutone Band and Edward Meison. Some of you may remember Nina as the winner of Georgian Idol in 2013.

GPB closed its submission period on December 20 and an internal panel then narrowed the submissions down to five songs. They will be presented to the public on December 31. Each song will be assigned a telephone number and the Georgian public will have until January 14 to vote for their favourites. Yes, that’s two whole weeks. On the evening of January 14 the singers will perform their songs live on TV. The public votes will be combined with the votes of an international jury to decide the winner.

Georgia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest six times, debuting in 2007. Last year Georgia selected the jazz fusion band The Shin alongside vocalist Mariko Ebralidze to perform in Copenhagen. Mariko & The Shin failed to qualify for the final. But there is a silver lining: their low placing has inspired this year’s exciting effort!

Nina or nothing.

Either Nina or Misha. Aside from the vocals, Misha needs more to work on how he deliver his emotions while singing, but that’s just my own opinion.

It’s a good thing that we don’t have The Shin and Mariko.

Personally, I want Nina Sublatti to represent Georgia because I like her voice and if you have her singing a really good, dark, police/crime themed pop song with a strong visual package and flawless live vocals, that might do well with both the juries and the televoting.

Nina is a good singer but there isn’t an amazing singer.
Lets hope they have a real gem in their song selection as Georgia hasn’t had a great song since ‘visionary dream’ although ‘shine’ seems to be popular.

MISHA SULUKHIA, based on the clips above, would choose him, sympahtetic voice and in Georgian language please. Besides he looks cute. Second choice would be NINA SUBLATTI, based on her vocals, should work on her preentation. Sounds a bit like Hooverphonic, which is cool. Watching the video of EDWARD MEISON I get the feeling he is more (or only) concerned about his looks than on proper English pronounciation or the singing. Only therefore I would not cast him for Eurovision. ETERI BERIASHVILI & NIUTONE: cannot judge them only based on these fragments. If Eteri’s only trick is fast singing, then… Read more »

Nina would have to be my favourite as of now. I really love her whole persona. Niutone and Edward (he should work on his English if he’s gonna end up singing in English though) seem promising, while on the other hand Eteri and Misha are cringeworthy. Hopefully all five candidate songs will be amazing though.
