For weeks we’ve been following the progress of the finalists on The Voice of Russia (Golos)— and we finally have a winner! Alexandra Vorobyova — who you may remember covering Beyoncé’s “Listen” — won the final head-to-head showdown against Jaroslav Dronov with 55.4% of the votes. “I think that I’m in a fairy tale or something,” she said after the show. “It’s all unreal. I am trying to understand what happened this week.”

What happened is that she continuously wowed audiences with her live vocals and stage presence, showing amazing versatility along the way. During the final she impressed judges and fans alike with her medley of songs from “Phantom of the Opera” and her duet of “Baby Sleep” with her mentor Alexander Gradksy, both of which you can watch below.

Why do we care? Outside of the fact she’s a great singer, Alexandra is relevant to Eurovision fans because of the growing rumours that Russia’s First Channel will use The Voice to select its Eurovision 2015 singer. (You can read more about that here). It’s a smart move. A whopping 1.2 million votes were counted, showing just how popular The Voice of Russia has become. Allowing the winner — or another one of the finalists — to sing at Eurovision would be a popular move because the people have, in a sense, already spoken. Plus Alexandra is now tried and tested. You know she can deliver under pressure.

What do you think? Could Alex soar with the right song at Eurovision?

The right choice to ESC 2015 is Alexander Bon. This guy has personality, great voice and charisma as an artist. Send him Russian.

She sounds good and I can see how she won the Voice. However, it’d be really interesting to have either of the two guys in the final who sang in that “The Winner Takes it All” clip go to Vienna with a rock song. They’d stand out and dominate, imo.

Stunning voice, I really hope she does go to Eurovision. Opera entries are rare at Eurovision, good ones at least (Uhm.. Cezar) so she should stand out really well! Personally, I dislike opera intensely but it really works with her, perfect combination. You know what to do Russia, would be a really good follow up to Dina’s entry – Even if the message of her song has got lost in recent years haha.

I reallly hope it will not be Alexandra. She is a very disappointing choice from Golos. First of all, this is suspicious that all seasons were won by contestants from the same couch (Gradsky). Last year, it was won by some opera guy instead of powerful Nargiz Zakirova. Yaroslav and Alexander Bon were the best in the final – edgy and noncompromising. Alexandra is another singing machine for covers of Beyonce/Houston etc. Nothing original and interesting but she could suit as recent Russian entrant as their broadcaster prefers to play safe and something non-daring (preferably peace ballad). I am a… Read more »

no, because she’ll sing with American Opera Singer Rodney Gilfry.
