Last night in Cyprus the Eurovision Song Project continued with the first of two “Eurochallenge” stages. Having made it past their auditions, which have been broadcast since December, 20 acts performed their potential Eurovision entries once again. Former Miss Universe Cyprus Antri Karantoni, looking as stunning as ever, guided us through the show.

To help the judging panel (Alex Panayi, Tasos Tryfonos, Despina Olympiou and Elena Patroklou) decide which 10 acts should reach the next stage, CyBC called upon guest judges Christer Björkman (Swedish Head of Delegation and executive producer of Melodifestivalen) and Dimitris Kontopoulos (composer of Ukraine’s “Shady Lady” in 2008 and Greece’s “This Is Our Night” in 2009). After some tough decisions — and a very long show — the judges revealed the 10 qualifiers!

Eurovision Song Project: Eurochallenge Qualifiers

Christina Tselepou – “In These Arms”

Christos Rialas – “Meine”

Doody – “Magic”

Giannis Karagiannis – “One Thing I should Have Done”

Hovig – “Stone in a river”

Ioanna Protopapa – “Beat Of My Heart”

Minus one – “Shine”

Nearchos Evangelou and Charis Savva – “Deila Den Agapo”

Panagiotis Koufogiannis – “Without Your Love”

Pieros Kerzou – “Said It All Before”

Well done to them all, but don’t celebrate just yet. The lucky ten will perform again on next week’s Eurochallenge show and the juries will select 6 acts for the national final on 1 February. This tough competition just gets even tougher, y’all!

What do you think of tonight’s results?

If the different stages didn’t have these names it wouldn’t be confusing.
In brief words, we have 6 heats from which the 54 songs are cut to 20. Then the 20 songs are cut to 10, the 10 to 6 and the final consists of the 6 songs. At some times the singers also sing eurovision classics but no one really cares about that.

Did they really just eliminated ”Dawn” and ”Right In”, and instead gave Doody a chance to pass to the second challenge?…
