Sad news, y’all. Last year’s Belgian entrant for Eurovision Axel Hirsoux has lost his record deal with Universal Music. Despite the hype surrounding his entry after his selection, he finished 14th out of 16 acts in his semi-final.

Axel announced the news on Facebook, writing: “The Eurovision Song Contest has given me a chance, and Universal … Now it’s up to me to continue.”

He also wrote that he has to show everyone that he can do it on his own and that his fans are the reason he will remain a singer.

AxelAfter Eurovision, Axel released two singles: ‘Bellissimo‘ and the duet “Because you need me” with The Voice Kids Belgium finalist Camille. Neither became a big hit, but both showcased his powerful voice. The lackluster sales could be the reason why Universal backed out of releasing his debut album, which was discussed when they inked the deal during Eurovision season.

Axel Hirsoux and Eurovision

Axel Hirsoux is known by most of you as Ruslana’s favourite to win Eurovision. It didn’t go as planned and Axel did not reach the final in Copenhagen. But at least he won our wiwibloggs Pirates of the Sea cruise ship award.

After his semi-final exit, Axel caught up with wiwiblogger David in Copenhagen. He was staying positive, and we appreciated his warmth.

THIS ISN’T THE LAST OF HIM! Mark my words! Rusalana will throw him a bone and he’ll sneak up on us with a name change and washboard abs and you’ll be sorry! *cries* You’ll be sorry.

He had one? Which belgian “Simon Cowell” had the audacity to waste time with another Paul Potts singing about his mother, the most artificial and unreliable way?
Not a hint of surprise here … I don’t see natural talent, he may be a good person, but you have to be a reliable and extremely good singer people can believe in. Not for me.

Here yee, Here yee!! We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Axel Hirsoux’s long and distinguished music career. Axel was a quiet man and as gentle as a lamb with a passion for sitting in the local laundry place and knitting his country’s flag. Then, a miraculous event happened, he won Eurosong in Belgium. Ruslana’s heart was stolen (and her Ukrainian flag) by Axel. Maybe that’s just because she thought the line “And once again” being repeated 6 million times was sexy, I dunno. Marty Whelan also took a shine to Axel Hirsoux. As he was praying… Read more »

I hope it’s not the end of Axel Hirsoux. But I have a feeling it will be the end of him.

RIP Axel Hirsoux.

Sorry, “Mother” was one of the worst ones of 2014. And on stage his voice was AWFUL. But I feel sorry for him though the record deal’s decision was somewhat correct.

I remember watching Eurosong last year and nearly banging my head against the wall when he beat SIL and Eva Jacobs. To think I actually enjoyed watching that national selection and then got stuck with this result. I don’t know what Belgium or Ruslana saw in him because the moment I heard “Mother” I knew it’d fail horribly, and it did. As for his recording contract, Universal made a good decision honestly. Unless you’re Josh Groban or Michael Bublé this stuff doesn’t sell.

Belgium really liked him in the lead up to Eurovision, and I think a lot of people were surprised when he didn’t make the final. The betting odds were certainly way off – they had projected him top 10 in the final prior to the semis, if I recall correctly. But the song (alongside the background choreography) was somewhat awkward. He certainly has a great voice and I’d love to hear him on a better song than Mother. Wishing him the best.

I’m sorry for him, but I kinda understand Universal’s decision.
