Armenia, the land of Sirusho and Eva Rivas, has kept its lips tight when it comes to discussing this year’s internal selection for Eurovision 2015. While we have no updates from ARMTV at the moment, Eurofans are starting to think that Athena Manoukian, a rising Greek-Armenian pop star, could be shaking it in Vienna. The latest rumours are fueled by this Facebook message Athena posted on Facebook on January 21.

Who is Athena Manoukian?

We don’t have much information other than a biography from MTV. MTV describes her this way:

This savvy teen and goddess of the stage was discovered a few years ago and immediately sky rocketed into Europe’s dance clubs overnight with her phenomenal vocal range, stage presence and catchy pop/dance tunes.

From a very young age, she showed her talent in music and incredible ability in performing on stage. A true show piece indeed!

The nineteen year old is originally from Greece but has Armenian heritage. Coming from two folk-pop empires, we can certainly expect something authentically dance worthy and patriotic from her if she goes.

Digging a bit into her history, we also found more reason to suspect Athena Manoukian of accepting any Eurovision proposals coming her way. She competed in the Greek national final for Junior Eurovision back in 2008, where she placed seventh with “To fili tis Afroditis”.

We featured her in our recent Armenia poll, and at the moment she is way down in 16th place.

What can Athena Manoukian bring to the table?

Do you want Athena Manoukian to represent Armenia in Eurovision 2015? Could she bring a strong result?

Oh stop it! They will never send her to Eurovision. Sona Rubenyan and Iveta Mukuchyan can fold Athena into an origami when it comes to singing. Sona and Iveta are a thousand times better singers, and everyone knows it. So why send Athena?

Wow, if she repps Armenia, I’ll be so happy, XO sounds fabulous. I usually love Armenian entries (Dorians excluded, of course) so can’t wait to see what they have to offer!

She’s amazing. I wish she represented Armenia with XO. Sending a sexy pop star is always a safe choice just look at Ani Lorak, Sirusho, Kalomira, Hadise….

Also, I can’t handle it if Armenia even dares to think about sending Emmy and Gor Sujyan (their worst placers) to Eurovision again…are you kidding me?

@Siggy – I agree with you. I read about some leaked picture from the Armenian broadcaster’s HQ that featured Emmy, Inga Arshakyan (I think, not sure), Gor Sujyan, and some other famous Armenian singer, so I think they might be sending these four as a supergroup. The thought of it makes me cringe.

And not every “big surprise” a European artist talks about is Eurovision lol

I don’t know….she seems more affiliated with the Greek music industry than the Armenian industry, but because of this I can see her representing Greece. Also that JESC national final song is better than every song Greece has ever sent to JESC, how did it not win.

I definitely would not be disappointed if she is the Armenian representative. However, I feel there are more well known stars in Armenia. If the head of delegation is right with her teasing us of a big surprise I suspect it to be a armenian legend or superstar
