Dolly Style are one of the seven acts competing in the first heat of Melodifestivalen 2015 on 7 February. #melfest fans obviously haven’t heard their song yet, but the gorgeous trio are already grabbing attention because of their anime-inspired look. Plenty of you have already suggested similarities to YOHIO and speculated that their song “Hello, Hi” could all just be a stunt. wiwibloggs loves the girls’ style and is super excited for their song, so we recently sat down to get to know the Dolly Styles a little better.
Hi Dolly Style! Your names are Holly, Polly and Molly – are you sisters?
We are like sisters but not by “blood”.
We love that you grew up in a dollhouse in Dolly Ville – what inspired you to become a pop group?
We all have a big interest in music and spend a lot of our free time singing and dancing. We met our lovely dolly mum (our manager) who wanted to start a group with us and so we did! It also gives us the opportunity to spread our music. We just love to sing and dance — that’s all we want to do!
A lot of our readers have compared you to YOHIO – has he gotten involved in your Melodifestivalen debut in any way?
Yes, we are aware of that. Which we think is fun and it’s cool that we’re both inspired by the Japanese style and culture. There is a similarity in our appearance in terms of the elements of the Japanese style, but he is not involved with our group.
Your song is called, “Hello, Hi” and is about socializing – could you tell us a bit more about it?
The song is a colorful and powerful pop song. We really love it, and we think it suits us as a group perfectly. But, we must warn you…the song will get stuck in your head, we promise. It’s amazingly catchy! It’s very fun and it gives you a lot of energy. You’ll probably start dancing with us when you hear it. Fun, catchy, imaginative and well-made, and yes the song is about making people look up and say hi to each other!
Have you thought about the staging for Melodifestivalen? Will there be choreography?
Yes! It’s a secret but we can tell you there will be some moves.
We’ve seen that Kei and Lolita are big influences on your style, but there has been a suggestion you’re similar to the Powerpuff Girls – if you were the Powerpuff Girls which one would each of you be and why?
The look is Polly=Buttercup, Molly=Bubbles and Holly=Blossom, but the character is more Holly= Bubbles, Polly= Blossom and Molly= Buttercup.
We’ve also read that you have global ambitions – did that influence the Japanese-styling of your group?
Yes we have. And no, we just love our style and want to give pepole a nice and colorful show whereever we go.
Who are your biggest musical influences today?
Oh it is so many…pop, r’n’b, hip hop and rock.
There are a lot of former participants in Semi-Final 1 – do you think being a new act will help?
We have not been thinking so much about that. We just know that we have a very good song and that we love what we do. We don’t know if it’s good or bad that we are a new act.
Who is / are your favourite Melodifestivalen acts of all time and why?
“Never let it go” with Afrodite cause we just feel good about the song!
Lastly thank you so much for this interview – do you have a message for your fans and the readers on wiwibloggs?
Thanks for following us and we hope that you will love our song and performance. We love you all and hope you will help us to get to Eurovision 🙂 Hugs from us
