Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK) 2015 kicks off with the first of three heats on February 1. In between rehearsals and press meet-and-greets, the 18 acts have also recorded personal vlogs for the official UMK Youtube channel. It’s time to log on and get comfortable!
So what are they doing in their vlogs?
Like the postcards at the Eurovision Song Contest, the short clips focus on passions the artists have outside of singing and how they spend their free time. Otto Ivar, for example, hits the boxing ring to get pumped before UMK. Mother-daughter duo Solju show off beautiful Finnish Lapland by snowboarding and Aikuinen gives us the recipe for his favourite alcoholic drink (which is also the name of his entry). Vilikasper Kanth shows us the best skatehall in town.
The clips are in Finnish, but the Finnish landscape doesn’t need commentary: it is jaw-droppingly beautiful y’all. Most are in Finnish, though Everest’s vlog sees the members show off their multicultural language skills.
I’d love to get in that boxing ring and punch Otto Ivar in his face.
