Broadcaster TVR has announced today that it received almost 100 song submissions for Selectia Nationala. The jury will now select up to 12 songs for the National Final on 8 March, to be revealed in a press conference on 12 February. Until then, what do we know?
The first act to reveal their submission for Selectia Nationala was Keky. The openly gay singer (real name: Florin Chechisan) entered “GabrielLE” into the competition.

Transgender singer Naomy announced that she is going back into the ring with an upbeat song “that is sure to become a radio hit”, “Sing For Love”, written by last year’s third place artist Vizi Imre. Naomy promised to publish her entry today, so keep an eye out for it!
Also trying to represent her country is Ramona Nerra. The Romanian-born artist who shone on The Voice of Germany and then recorded the smash hit “Never Give Up” with ATB announced, via YouTube, that she submitted a ballad called “Trilogy Of Life” to TVR:
We’ve already reported that Voltaj, the Romanian pop-rock band, was thinking about submitting their radio hit “De la capat” to the national selection. So far, they have not announced that they have changed their mind or whether the song would be entered in English.
Sadly, we can’t say the same about Timebelle, who despite first saying they were considering sending “Singing About Love” after failing in Switzerland, then changed their minds.
Also, 2006 representative Mihai Traistariu said that he received many tracks, but no killer song to put “Tornero” to shame, so he is not likely to be on the list. But you never know with him.
Breakout singer Nicole Stroiny announced that she entered her collaboration with Ja Mike, entitled “Should I Go”, to Selectia Nationala.
A plethora of other more or less known singers, like Ozana Barabancea, Lara Lee, Ovidiu Anton, Irina Ionescu and others also announced that they have submitted songs, but have not revealed them up to this point. Liana Stanciu, the Romanian head of delegation, stated in an interview that some acts from Germany, Norway and Sweden also entered the competition, while tabloid “Libertatea” claimed that a song was submitted from as far as Australia.
Update: According to TVR, Luminita Anghel (who represented Romania in 2005), Nicola (2003), and members of the internationally known band Rednex also submitted entries for Selectia Nationala. TVR also confirmed that Voltaj did submit a song to Selectia Nationala, most probably “De la capat”.
A teaser of Luminita’s song has been published on YouTube:
We are impatiently waiting until Thursday, when the finalists chosen by the jury are revealed. But while we wait, what do you think about how Selectia Nationala is shaping up so far?
