In the run-up to each heat of Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu (UMK), Finland’s selection for Eurovision 2015, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — will rate the songs from that heat. Next up is Jouni Aslak, who is singing “Lions and Lambs“. Did he make us roar? Read on to find out…

Deban: “We are, We are, We are…” getting sick of the refrain and silly metaphors. The song got so tedious I distracted myself by imagining Jouni in a tight pvc outfit and a pair of rollerskates. Whilst I may be inclined to unleash the kinky cub in me tonight, I demand a different soundtrack.

Score: 2.5/10

Josh: This song is sweet and it’s nice to listen to. The lyrics are really stupid though. I don’t understand the ‘Lions and Lambs’ metaphor. But this track isn’t the most offensive at UMK this year. I can’t see it fairing very well though.

Score: 6/10

William: You’re not just “a boy with a bad reputation.” You’re a boy with a bad song. I won’t dignify this with any more commentary.

Ramadan: This is a quite enjoyable! However the “We are, We are, We are…” can be annoying at times. Overall, it’s a nice song, but it isn’t up there when the chorus just repeats over and over.

Score: 6/10

Robyn: I blame Katy Perry, who declared she was a tiger. Now everyone has their own spirit animal or – in the case of Jouni – animals. This is an epic, “raise yourself up” anthem with a great chorus. Unfortunately its a bit too reliant on the chorus – by the halfway mark, the song is just the chorus repeated over and over and it just gets boring.

Score: 4/10

Sami: This song is so international and it could be a big hit for Robbie Williams or some other big male pop star. The chorus is catchy and he has an amazing voice. If they make the show big enough it could win.

Score: 9/10

Sopon: This sounds like a wonderful choice for a nature movie soundtrack, especially for the shots where the helicopter camera is flying over the plains and deserts and savannah, following the herds of zebras. I think that it will tire some after a minute.

Score: 7/10

Patrick: This song seems so cheap. The chorus is not so bad but it’s nothing special and the melody is boring. It’s nice but that’s it.

Score: 5/10

Mikhail: This song doesn’t catch my attention at all. It’s neither good, nor bad. Just an ordinary song with a lovely melody which would sound good on the radio in the car. Certainly it would not distract the driver.

Score: 4/10

The highest and lowest scores have been removed before calculating the final scores to avoid bias. We have removed a high of 9 and a low of 2.

The Wiwi Jury Verdict: 4.9/10
