It’s the middle of summer in Australia, and it’s getting even hotter as we begin to learn more about Australia at Eurovision 2015. We know that SBS will reveal its Eurovision 2015 act during the first week of March. But until then we’ll just have to speculate — and lobby — for the acts we want to see in Vienna. From Tina Arena to Samantha Jade, we’ve come up with some Australian artists who we think will blow your thongs off. After taking a peak, you can vote in our poll. If your favourite Aussie act isn’t listed, you can also submit them in the “Other Answer” box, and we’ll add them all daily. Dami Im slayed in our Australia Eurovision poll last year. Can she come out on top now that stuff just got real?

Anja Nissen

Anja Nissen won the last series of the Australian TV show The Voice, and she subsequently signed to will.i.am’s record label (he was her coach). With her powerhouse vocals, she could surely bring a win in for Australia!

Cody Simpson

Cody Simpson is an 18-year old singer from the Gold Coast. Cody has a HUGE following on social media, with over 7 million followers on Twitter. His boyish charm and popularity amongst the young ladies (and some boys) would surely translate to Europe.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRqU1o3wJ1U

Dami Im

Dami Im, a South Korean-born Australian singer, won the fifth series of Australian X Factor. She signed a record deal with Sony Music Australia and became a national superstar. Dami also went on to represent Australia at the ABU TV Song Festival 2014 with the song ‘Living Dangerously’. She ain’t no stranger to some international competition, y’all.

Dannii Minogue

The not-so-famous Minogue sister has still had a mildly successful career in Australia and the UK, predominantly in the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Dannii has also served as a judge on Australia’s Got Talent, the UK and Australia’s X-Factor, and Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model. And werrrrrk.

Darren Hayes

Darren Hayes is the frontman of one of Australia’s most iconic music artists of all time, Savage Garden. When Savage Garden split in 2001, Darren went on to have a successful solo career in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Darren has been quiet for a few years now, and Eurovision could be the perfect excuse for a comeback!

Dean Ray

Dean Ray is most known for being the runner-up of The X Factor Australia in 2014, coming second to Marlisa. After the show finished, Dean’s debut song ‘Coming Back’ reached number 5 on the Australian singles charts.

Delta Goodrem

Delta Goodrem started out as the girl next door on ‘Neighbours’ back in 2002, but has transformed into a Diva Down Under with her powerhouse vocals and flawless piano skills.  Delta is one of Australia’s best-known vocalists and has been a coach on the Australian versions of The Voice and The Voice Kids.

Five Seconds of Summer

One of Australia’s most popular artists right now, 5 Seconds of Summer, or more affectionately known as 5SOS, have had charting success in Australia, the US and most of western Europe. The boys from Sydney have had more than 300 million views and over 2.2 million subscribers on YouTube.

Gabriella Cilmi

Gabriella Cilmi is a rock-jazz artist from Melbourne. She had huge success in Australia, New Zealand and a lot of Europe with her debut song ‘Sweet About Me’. Gabriella hasn’t had a charted song since 2010, so a Eurovision-style comeback may be exactly what she needs to get herself back on the music scene.

Gina G

A name that Eurovision fans may recognise! Gina G represented the United Kingdom at Eurovision 1996 in Oslo with her smash ‘Ooh Ahh (Just a Little Bit)’. Gina released a song on the Australian iTunes Store in 2011 but it has since been removed. Could she bring it in Vienna?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMOgwaaQofI

Gotye

Born Wouter De Backer, Belgian-born Gotye skyrocketed to major chart success in 2011, joining Kiwi-singer Kimbra in ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’. Gotye hasn’t charted in Australia since then, and as Eurovision leaves some of the cheese behind and opts for more obscure music, Gotye could be a great choice for Australia.

Guy Sebastian

Guy Sebastian won the first series of Australian Idol in 2003. Guy Sebastian has had a huge amount of top 20 hits in Australia, including ‘Battle Scars‘, ‘Like a Drum‘ and ‘Linger‘, therefore he has become one of Australia’s most successful male artists. He was also a judge on X Factor between 2010 and 2012.

Holly Valance

Holly Valance is another Australian singer/actress born from the fame of Ramsay Street. Playing Felicity Scully on Neighbours from 1999-2002, Holly then launched herself into a solo music career in 2002 and 2003 with success in Australia and most of Europe. Mwah.

Iggy Azalea

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea moved to the United States at 16 to try and make it big. Eight years on, she has made that dream a reality. She has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and has collaborated with the likes of Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez and Rita Ora. I.G.G.Y has also been nominated for Grammy’s, VMA’s, Teen Choice Awards and American Music Awards. She so fancy.

Jason Donovan

Following the trend of former Neighbours stars, Jason Donovan is famously known for playing Scott Robinson in Neighbours from 1986-1989. Jason Donovan had multiple hit songs in Australia and Europe in the late 1980’s, but none of Jason’s music has charted in Australia since 1990.

Jason Owen

Jason Owen is another member of The X Factor Australia alumni, coming second to Samantha Jade in 2012. His debut single ‘Make It Last’, which would have been the winners single if he won The X Factor. The song debuted at 47, and Jason has not had any musical success since.

Jessica Mauboy

Does Jessica Mauboy need an introduction? Really? After becoming the runner-up of Australian Idol in 2006, Jessica Mauboy has had a huge amount of success in Australia with both her music, and her acting on the hit film, ‘The Sapphires‘. She even gained an interview on Ellen for her role in that film. She then went on to represent Australia in Eurovision 2014 in Copenhagen as the interval act in the second semi final. Could she go on to compete for real?

JET

Jet are a Melbourne-based band who had a string of successful albums and singles in Australia, USA and some areas of Europe from 2003-2010. The band split in 2012, but Eurovision could be a way to get a good group of talented musicians back together.

Karise Eden

Karise Eden, a.k.a. the Australian Janis Joplin won the first season of the Australian version of The Voice. Karise Eden is known for her memorable blind audition of “It’s a Man’s World” on the show and it is considered the best blind audition of any season of The Voice worldwide.

Keith Urban

Keith Urban is an Australian-born country music legend! After a HUGELY successful career as a country musician in the USA, he got married to Nicole Kidman, served as a coach on the first season of The Voice Australia and then moved onto being a judge on American Idol alongside Harry Connick Jr. and Jennifer Lopez!

Kylie Minogue

An early fan favourite to represent Australia is Miss Kylie Minogue. A massive star in the UK and USA, as well as her native Australia, we are confident that Kylie would SLAY in Vienna! There is even an online petition to get her on the Eurovision stage! She has also conveniently announced she will not return as a coach on The Voice Australia and released a track last week with Giorgio Moroder, called ‘Right Here, Right Now’.

Leo Sayer

British-born Leo Sayer was a famous pop star from 1973 to approximately 1986. Leo Sayer had not had a charted song in Australia since 1986, until he collaborated with MECK in 2006 with ‘Thunder In My Heart’.

Marlisa Punzalan

Marlisa Punzalan, or more commonly known as just Marlisa, is the most recent winner of The X Factor Australia. With Filipino heritage, she’s another Australian star on the rise with some Asian persuasion. At the ripe age of 15, that does make her ineligible to enter Eurovision though. Sad face.

Mental as Anything

Mental as Anything are a band that formed in 1976 and continue to play together to this day. They’ve had success in Australia and New Zealand but not for over 30 years! Maybe SBS will decide to follow the UK and pick an artist who hasn’t done anything in a while.

Natalie Bassingthwaighte

Continuing with more X Factor Australia/Neighbours affiliates, Natalie Bassingthwaighte (or you can just call her Nat Bass) started her career as Izzy Hoyland from 2003-2006. From there she was the lead singer for the Rogue Traders, hosted So You Think You Can Dance Australia, and now serves as a judge on The X Factor Australia.

Natalie Imbruglia

Natalie Imbruglia was my favourite Australian 90’s artist growing up, and ‘Torn’ is still one of my jams, y’all. She has had chart success in Australia, the UK, the USA and most of Europe. She is also expected to realise an album in March 2015. Perfect timing?

Nick Cave

Nick Cave, along with his band ‘the Bad Seeds’ formed in 1984 and still perform together to this day. Their most recent album, ‘Push the Sky Away’ charted in more than 10 countries including reaching number one in Australia, New Zealand, Denmark and The Netherlands. Their most iconic song was a collaboration with Kylie Minogue on the worldwide smash ‘Where The Wild Roses Grow’, and is considered one of the best songs from the 90’s.

Reece Mastin

Reece Mastin is best known for winning The X Factor Australia in 2011. Since his win, he has released 6 hit singles, all of which have charted in Australia, the most recent being ‘Girls (All Around The World)’.

Ricki-Lee

Born Ricki-Lee Coulter in Auckland, New Zealand, Ricki-Lee is best known for being a finalist in Australian Idol in 2004, where she was shockingly eliminated in the Top 7 episode after being a favourite the entire season. This incident led her to become a successful solo artist, and had her song ‘Can’t Touch It‘ featured on the soundtrack of the Sex and the City movie. Her most recent track, Mirage, although not charted, is my jam!

Samantha Jade

Samantha Jade  was dropped from her original record label, and then looked to Australian talent show The X Factor as her last option. She took out the whole competition in 2012, and proceeded to become Australia’s sweetheart with her debut single ‘What You’ve Done To Me‘ and followed it up with hit songs ‘Firestarter‘, ‘Soldier‘, ‘UP!‘ and ‘Sweet Talk’.

Savage Garden

Savage Garden was a pop-duo made up of Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. The pair only released two albums, both of huge success in Australia, the USA, Japan, New Zealand and a lot of Europe. They had many hit singles around the world, my favourite being ‘I Knew I Loved You’ from 1999. The pair officially split in 2005.

Sia

Sia is arguably Australia’s most famous singer-songwriter right now. Sia has written songs for the likes of Rihanna, Kesha, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Beyoncé and Celine Dion. When Sia released ‘Chandelier‘ and it was OVER. The song was an immediate success, with assistance from Dance Moms star, Maddie Ziegler. Sia then followed up with another smash’Elastic Heart‘.

Taylor Henderson

Taylor Henderson, from Melbourne, was the runner-up to Dami Im in The X Factor Australia in 2013. So far he has released two albums, both of which went to Number 1 in Australia, as well as a solid amount of singles that have also all reached the top 100. His most successful single was ‘Borrow My Heart’, which would have been his winners single if he had won The X Factor.

Tina Arena

Tina Arena is arguably Australia’s most successful female artist of all time. Tina is a former child star, featuring in the show ‘Young Talent Time’ from 1977-1983. In 1994, she released her album ‘Don’t Ask’, which went 10x Platinum in Australia and achieved Platinum and Gold status in New Zealand and the UK respectively. She also performed during the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. Tina now resides in France and is trilingual (English, French and Italian) and has released a huge amount of songs in French, thus making her very popular in France and Switzerland.

The Veronicas

The Veronicas are a set of twins from Brisbane. Their actual names are Lisa and Jess Origliasso. Their debut album “The Secret Life of…” had success in Australia and throughout Europe and the US. All 12 singles they have released have reached the Top 50 in Australia. Their most recent singles, ‘You Ruin Me‘ and ‘If You Love Someone’ have reached the Top 5 in Australia.

Xfactor should be blamed for Marlissa’s vote, not only did they try & con the viewers thinking that every performance was great, they built up false hopes of a Country (Filipino) people thinking they have an amazing talent when clearly she has a long, long way to go in the Music industry. Xfactor thats why 1.3 Million viewers dropped off in 2014 & thats why the voting system was rigged by the proxy vote. Xfactor I hope you have learned your lesson.

I can understand voters wanting Dami, Tina, Guy, Sammy, Kylie & Jess who are all talented but seriously Marlissa??? Long way to go before she evan reaches 20% of the other Artists…someone mentioned Poll’s been tampered with, agree how can 13 votes to 2000 be done with the space of few hours yesterday?

Is this Poll a Joke?? Marlisa ??? We don’t want someone who can’t sing….are these votes genuine & real & if so have the people gone Mad or just deaf & dumb not realising she is no way near the top Aussie Artists?? If you believe in her, put your Money where your mouth is & place Money on her with the Betting Agency paying $26.00 for her…..Crazy World we live in!

Clive Silver Hawk, everyone knows this Poll has been tampered with, from 13 votes to over 2,000 within several hours? Don’t humiliate & embarrass Marlisa, I doubt if she would evan want to sing at Eurovision such is the pressure to perform not only in front of a large audience but Millions of viewers on T.V. She was sadly made to look like an amateur school girl when she performed at Carols, she narrowly won Xfactor & that was primarily through the Filipino vote, not voting for her Musical talents but rather just showing National support from Filipino community &… Read more »

I hope it’s Marlisa. At 15 she has proven that age doesn’t matter to win X Factor. She may be young but her talent is beyond her age. She’s amazing, super talenteand a good role model to the youth today.

I think Marlisa would be a good choice to represent especially the youth of Australia.

To join the competition, there should be no age limit. It should be more on talent, which fortunately she has plently of.

Dami is the perfect Eurovision candidate. Part of her appeal is the paradox nature of her vocals, from sounding Angelic one second to unleashing the most Powerful note when you feel the spine tingling, goosebumps & pure mental & physical positive stimulation as her voice cuts deep. She’s proven she can perform in front of a huge crowd & big occasion so much so that her performances were trending on Twitter. Her Music is played around the World from Indonesia, USA, Peru to Europe & her Fans are also widely spread across the globe. Her recent promotion of Heart Beats… Read more »

Dami Im for Eurovision! Her voice is so versatile and phenomenal. Instant fan when I first found her on X factor via Youtube. I have never gotten this excited for any artists before. She is so talented yet so caring and humble, it’s rare to find a genuine artist like Dami. She is beautiful inside and out, and definitely deserve to perform for the world. It would be weird to send a well-known artist like Sia and Iggy, it just seems unfair. That being said, if they plan to send someone already worldwide famous, Sia is a great choice, no… Read more »

Dami im is the most amazing talent that Australia has produced and is the best talent for euro vision 2015, some mentioned why she has not heard Dami on Radio stations it is because Australia pandies to overseas talent, Australians should support there local talent because we have many amazing talent like Dami im. Sony whom Dami im has signed up with are the worst company in the world, they do not support her enough as far as I am concerned, all her songs are amazing including her latest Album Heart Beats.

Why isn’t Dami being played on Radio in Aus? I watched her on Xfactor & the only reason my family & I were watching was for Dami. Since then I thought she had left the Music industry cause now I just don’t hear her on Aussie Radio, who is her Label & management company?? Whoever it is you have a Gold Mine why not promote her I say, she is clearly the best voice not only in Australia, but the World.

I’m a fan of many Aus pop artists. However it isn’t hard for me to pick who would be perfect to represent Australia in ESC. Without a doubt. Dami Im is my choice. She is so versatile. I got addicted to her songs, her voice and her music. If you watch and listen to her live on stage, phew…she’ll blow your mind away. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been to many others world superstars concerts but Dami Im’s cut deep in my mind for a very long time.

Dami or Tina Arena. Both would be perfect representatives of Australia. Tina has been Australia’s most successful Artist & has a huge following in Europe having made France home where she is massively popular. Dami is the new fresh kid on the block ready to smash the World Music scene. Super talented & World Class and no doubt will be a huge hit wherever she sings….the fact she can sing any genre & her Live performances in front of big audiences highlights her ability to perform under pressure & to the masses.

Dami Im needs to represent Australia in Eurovision! She is immensely gifted musically, and can even bring a freshness and new incite to songs that have been bashed for years. She will have the European viewers sit up snow listen as she did for most of us week softer week during x factor 2013. Dami could be the one to bring back the importance of the song to Eurovision…and not because of any crazy acts or costumes

Dami Im. I have been fortunate enough to be involved with Compassion Australia and to have known Dami prior to her Xfactor fame. What really separates Dami from any other Artist is her immense Musicality in not only theoretical terms but as a practitioner of Master Musician. At 11 Yrs Dami was awarded a Music scholarship to study at Young Conservatorium of Music program at Griffith University, National Finalist of the Yamaha Youth Piano competition, Won the prestigious Nora Baird scholarship, Won the State Queensland Piano competition several times as a Teenager, Awarded scholarships at University, First Class Honours Student… Read more »

Congratulations Australia for being selected to enter Eurovision 2015. I only came across Dami Im through The Dami Army World Fan base, and I have nothing but admiration for Dami. Finally it’s so exciting to witness a once in a generation Musician of the highest calibre, not only is Dami Vocally elite, she plays Violin/Piano , composes and writes Music. I have listened to her Music constantly, I believe Dami is the epitome of a World Class Musician and Artist. I believe Maria Mercedes would be the perfect choice for representing Euro vision. Her own story of how she entered show biz is fascinating. Her voice is stunning and she tastes every word and communicates the true essence of a song. She explores the many layers of each song she sings. Vocally her range is a magnificent, one moment subtle and soothing and son a power house that will knock your socks off. She was a knock out in so many shows ranging from Sunset Boulevard , Love Never Dies and so many. Recently she gave a tour de force… Read more »

The wonderfully talented Maria Mercedes should represent Australia in Eurovision 2015. Our representative should have some sort of European connection to enhance voting by the other countries and there can be no better option then this amazing Australian of Greek heritage that lives in the second largest Greek city in the world – Melbourne. Maria Mercedes has a powerhouse voice and stylish presence that deserves to be seen by the millions that watch this presentation. SBS would be silly not to have Dami & heres the reasons why- – Vocals- Hands down, Dami is clearly light years ahead from any other Artist when it comes to Vocal artistry. She’s the only Artist I know that has a Masters in Modern contemporary vocals, the vocal dynamics, range and the way her voice pierces through the listeners body is spiritual & magic. – Live Singing- We have all seen Artists who sound great in Studio, yet when it comes to Show Time & Singing Live, most sound ordinary & its only with bells & whistles and Studio… Read more »

Its guaranteed that Australia will receive some null points if they send a well-known local act who’s a nobody across the globe. So they have to make this one-off participation count. Must send Kylie, Sia, Guy Sebastian or 5 Seconds of Summer.

I’m a big XF Australia fan but sending any of their 3 female winners is a big risk. Many Europeans don’t even know much about Australia, let alone most of their ‘local’ stars. The Australians representative has to be well-known across the globe like Kylie Minogue, Sia, Iggy or even 5 Seconds of Summer.

Sia doesn’t like to perform in public too much, and based on her Grammy performance, she does have the vocal ability, but she would betoo exposed on the Eurovision stage for her to do it.
