Festival da Canção 2015

Portugal still, unlike most other countries, have yet to start preparing for their trip to Vienna. But, today RTP finally launched the Iberian nation’s Eurovision 2015 campaign, with the announcement of the 12 singers and songs that will battle it out in Festival da Canção 2015.

Artists and songs

These are the 12 artists and songs. Only one will be lucky enough to win the Portuguese Eurovision ticket:

Song: ‘Paz” – Singer: Adelaide Ferreira
Song: ‘Outra Vez Primavera’ – Singer: Yola Dinis
Song: ‘Lisboa, Lisboa’ – Singer: Rita Seidi
Song: ‘Há Um Mar Que Nos Separa’ – Singer: Leonor Andrade
Song: ‘A Noite Inteira’ – Singer: Filipa Batista
Song: ‘Tu Tens Uma Mágica’ – Gonçalo Tavares
Song: ‘Quando A Lua Voltar A Passar’ – Rubi Machado
Song: ‘Mal Menor (Ninguém Me Guia À Razão – Singer: José Freitas
Song: ‘Um Fado Em Viena’ – Singer:  Teresa Radamanto
Song:  ‘À Espera das Canções’ – Singer: Simone de Oliveira
Song: ‘Dança Joana’ – Singer: Filipe Gonçalves
Song: ‘Maldito Tempo’ – Diana Piedade

Our first thought looking at this list – where is Rui Andrade? After his third place finish in Festival da Canção 2014 and his stint as a backing singer for Russia’s Tolmachevy Twins in Copenhagen, we would have assumed Rui would be even more determined to shine on stage this year. Perhaps he is taking a sabbatical from Festival da Canção, in preparation for a grand comeback next year?

Second: haven’t we seen Adelaide somewhere before? Yes, we have! On stage in Sweden at Eurovision 1985. Back then she finished 18th out of 19 entries. Let’s hope she has more luck this time round.

And last but not least: Portuguese Eurovision-star Simone de Oliveira is back again! Simone participated in 1965 with ‘Sol de inverno’. She had to return home with just 1 point (13th place). She tried her luck again in 1969, with ‘Desfolhada’, collecting 4 points and ending 15th. May this be her year of fame?

Dates

As in previous years, Festival da Canção will have two semi finals and a final.

  • Semi final 1: March 3 (presenters: Joana Teles en Jorge Gabriel)
  • Semi final 2: March 5 (presenters: Sílvia Alberto en José Carlos Malate)
  • Final: March 7 (presenters: Catarina Furtado en Julius Isidro)

The shows will be broadcast live from Lisbon and can be watched on the RTP1 webstream.

Which direction will (and must!) Portugal take this year, after the lovely Suzy remained stranded in the semifinal with only 39 points?

So much ageism in these comments. Should a singer be criticised for being female, gay, black, fat, ugly or old. Will bigotry ever end?

Those songs that are linked are both good songs, especially the one from 1985. I love the quality of Adelaide’s vocals there.

Also, most of the song titles already make me wanna sleep ’cause they sound boring as hell. But let’s hope there’s something good in there.

I don’t honestly know what to think of this list. There are names that can bring some freshness and youth to FC like Rita Seidi, Diana Piedade or Leonor Andrade, but others oh sweet jesus. Adelaide Ferreira? And worse, Simone?? We all know Simone is one of the most acomplished singers in Portugal, with a long career and all, but COME ON! A 77 year old representing us on ESC 2015?! Nope. Please nope, nope. (Same goes for Adelaide, even though she’s younger). The sad thing is though, i can actually see any of them winning just because they are well… Read more »

I thought José Freitas would be one of them. I think he will be a strong contender if his song is good.

Mais um ano de vergonha? Espero que seja feita uma escolha sábia; ano passado a escolha foi desastrosa. Good luck!

I was extremely p-d off when “Mea Culpa” lost out to Suzy Yaz. One of my favourite singers and as a huge fan of her, an instant return would come too soon for Catarina Pereira. It took her 4 years to make a Festival da Canção return following her debut, and it looks like it’ll be the same today and in the near future.

No Rui Andreade, no Catarina, no Ricardo Soler as singers, and suprise no Andrej Babic as composer of one of the song.
Composer of Filipa Baptista song “A noite inteira” (All night) is Augusto Madureira who compose Portugal song in 2010.
One of composer of Rita Seidi “Lisboa, Lisboa” (Lisbon, Lisbon) song is Sara Tavares (She represent Portugal at Eurovison 1994)
One of composer of Gonçalo Tavares “Tu tens uma mágica” (You have magic) song are José Cid (he represent Portugal at Eurovision 1980 and compose song for Portugal 1998)

Sorry that I have to correct you, but Rui finished up 3rd. 2nd was Catarina Pereira. I’m wondering she’s not in the line up. I expected her to be a part of it. I’m still mourning “Mea culpa” that I simple adored and wish she will once have the chance to compete in Eurovision. The song was simply robbed.
