During both Latvian national final heats this year, viewers noticed a fun act entertaining the audience during the break – a beaver dancer. He also surprised quite a few Eurovision fans. Who is this furry friend? It’s the Riga Beaver.
Rigas bebrs (or Riga beaver) was actually among the 123 hopefuls fighting for a chance to be among the 20 Supernova contestants. Unfortunately the beaver didn’t manage to convince the juries with his beaver-reggae-rap type of performance at the live auditions.
The extraordinary artist is know in Latvia for his hit song “Milestiba Riga”, which features lyrics from other popular Eurovision and non-Eurovision songs translated into Latvian. Beaver, however, denies this fact saying, “there is no place for plagiarism in the song”.
Despite his bad luck in getting a place among the contestants, he still has an important role to play in Supernova, bringing cheer to the audience during breaks. He is again keeping the audience entertained during the Supernova final and even acknowledged his international fans.
Not all Latvian beavers get this chance, because most of them are usually seen in the capital city Riga inhabiting and destroying the city’s canal.
We wish him good luck, and who knows – maybe he will be this year’s Latvian spokesperson reading the points in his unique beaver style.
