Earlier today, the Wiwi Jury — our in-house team of music unprofessionals — continued our journey through Latvia ahead of the big final of Supernova 2015 tonight. Of course, we couldn’t miss the rehearsal before the big final, so that’s why we reviewed the favourite of tonight, Aminata with “Love Injected“. But did our opinions change after seeing it live?

AMINATA – “LOVE INJECTED”

http://youtu.be/JKMjBIx05R0

Anthony: Write Aminata off at your peril, y’all. I didn’t get this first time around after hearing the studio version, until I saw Aminata perform it live on the first heat of Supernova. It’s like trying to pack the booming sonorous voice of Brian Blessed into a petite young lady. And Aminata delivers it flawlessly with such confidence those Eurovision juries will be seriously impressed if she goes to Vienna.

Score: 7.5/10

Deban: By far the strongest contestant in the final, Aminata injects class in her performance. Although she’s mostly stationary on stage, her subtle movement SLAYS!  Her deeply emotional story is a believable one. I journey with her steadfastly as she belts her pain towards the end of “Love Injected”.  If quality is what’s being judged at the Latvia’s Supernova, she should be handpicked for Vienna.

Score: 9/10

Denise: It’s amazing. Her voice just blows me away and her perfomance is also amazing. The song is dark and mysterious, but in a good way. I like the outfit she’s wearing – it’s making it even more mysterious because it doesn’t suit the song and therefore it does suit the song. Can y’all still follow me, haha?! I really want her to win, but I don’t know if the voters will vote for her because it’s something totally different from what we’ve seen before.

Score: 9/10

Judit: It maybe sounds cruel, but her voice give me a headache. I’m so sorry, I tried to listen this song more, but every time I had to turn it off. She has the style, the staging is really good, and her moves also likeable, but the song… it looks like I’m the black sheep here, but I’m not a fan, at all.

Score: 5/10

Louis: For a 21-year-old, Aminata’s voice is ridiculously powerful. When tied together with a strong song, her ability to express her emotions on stage, and reasonably good support from fans, this entry has loads of potential.

Score: 9/10

Mikhail: Aminata is a great performer. Her song is very unique. It has a powerful energy, something mysterious. Her movements on stage are fascinating, so quick and unexpected. Not to mention that her voice is great. I am sure it can do very well.

Score: 9/10

Patrick: If it comes to the voice, Aminata should definitely win this whole thing as she nailed her vocals every single time in the heat and in the semi! She really looks like an African Amazon who went north and got stuck in Latvia! She could bring Latvia back into the final and maybe top 10! GO AMINATA!

Score: 9.5/10

Robyn: This is like a poppier version of FKA twigs’s style – delicate, stripped back alternative R&B, but with an epic pop chorus. The staging is great (especially the drummer). The song’s biggest weakness is the boring ending – 30 seconds of “oh oh ohhhh” repeated. I can’t see that holding the audience’s attention well.

Score: 7/10

Sopon: Three weeks later, I am still blown away by Aminata. This needs to be the Latvian entry to Eurovision, I see no other way around it. For once, Latvia has a song on its hands that is strong and emotional, not some cheesy crap or a weak ballad. Her voice is on point, and that chorus is killer! This is Latvia’s ticket back to the final. Aminata has to win Supernova.

Score: 10/10

William: Move over Mariah Carey! Li’l Aminata brings the voice of Eurovision selection season and it makes me shiver. Elements of this song bewilder me — cue those long silences — but when she belts out “Your looooove” my body quakes. YASSSS!

Score: 8.5/10

Wiwi Jury Average: 8.4/10

She reminds me A LOT of FKA twigs. I’m not into the habit of comparing artists, but Aminata really is like a more poppy version of her. It would be great to have such groundbreaking songs in Eurovision.

International viewers CAN vote for their favourite online via Facebook and Twitter. But you’re only allowed to vote ONCE, so that’s one vote for Facebook and one vote for Twitter. So choose carefully tonight!

Jup, he has created funbase in those countries, and now this will be paying off. It’s just sad, but atleast Aminata got some recognition for her “whole package”, not like Markus Riva – for his body, face& expensive clips

@Easpag: Why the hell are another country’s people allowed to choose for Latvia? BS.

@D whilst that is true, the Russians/Belorussians couldn’t vote then, and unfortunately they now can.

I don’t get what all the buzz is about this song… It’s just a song. Yes, it’s good, but nothing special.

She’s been my fav since they started their national selection.
This is everything Latvia needs as an entry.
