Elhaida Dani, Albania’s Eurovision 2015 singer, has announced that the sun is setting on her song “Diell”. Late on February 23 she announced on Facebook that she will NOT perform the song in Vienna.
Writing in both Albanian and Italian, the Italian X Factor winner said that she and the author have made the decision for personal reasons. She hopes that this sudden change won’t lead to controversy.
Eurofans have never questioned her voice. However, they have frequently suggested that the song lets her down. In our most recent poll asking “Who is your favourite Eurovision 2015 act so far?”, she only secured 6% of the vote. A quick look at our comments section shows how divided our readers have been.
What do you think? Could Elhaida have revamped “Diell” in time for Eurovision? Or was it beyond repair? Comment below!

SUKSESE ELHAIDA !
I don’t like this at all. I love Diell. So far it was clearly my favorite song. I still hope we will hear Diell at the ESC, whether in Albanian or in English.
Well, I’m happy for her, she deserved a better song, but maybe Diell would have been just fine with a swedish-do over, now we’ll never know.
I think it’ also important to point out that: a) The Festivali I Kenges is not a national final to select the Eurovision song, and b) Nobody actually believes Elhaida won it because she had a good song right? She won because she was obviously the best vocalist of the night by far.
@Marcelo: okay, just wanted to point it out 🙂
@Noah: Yes, this is worth pointing out. It’s true that people voted for this song, but more precisely, 7 people voted for this song. The other contestants have a right to be tickled, but there’s not much that anyone can do if indeed it’s true what everyone’s saying that the composer decided to withdraw it.
I really liked Diell, but let’s see…
I liked Diell though it wasn’t spectacular.I’m afraid that this new song might be worse but hope it won’t.
By the way, when talking “Albanian PUBLIC chose Diell”, have in mind that their Festival is strictly&only jury driven, no televote included.
Agreed @Ramadan Besim, it’s like the San Remo festival: a show on its own. And I heard no complaints whenever Italian songs were changed (I myself thrw a mild tantrum over the change of “Per Sempre”, though 😛 )
Let them decide and choose what they consider best. I trust Albania, as several other less-well-known contries (i.e. internationally speaking, in terms of massive reach).
It’s probably the best decision. Remember guys, FiK is not a national final. Many of you are getting confused.
only BOJKEN LAKO, and second seed song can do the job. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0OlKXqhaak
GIVE US AN UPBEAT SONG ALBANIA PLEEEASE!!! YOU COULD SAVE EUROVISION 2015!
I agree with Marcelo N., please be careful with lyrics and use a common sense. Elhaida, you can hear other candidates and choose to have different thematic from all of them, or at least from those already released. I have to add, if she really must go for a new song, choose a language at the beginning. I don’t care if it’s Albanian, English or Italian, but choose one and stick with it.
…and they may most likely go for a “safer” song -which would be a backstab after Suus/(forgettable song)/One Night’s Anger. But, as some have ironically put it, perhaps we should expect a song about “overcoming”, “empowerment” (nothing wrong with it, only they make them tacky and cliché at ESC). One thing I’m always in fear of is cheesy lyrics, which abound, or lyrics that come accross as too obvious lest *not.every.single.individual.will.get.it*. And so we’re left with a vast majority of obvious and non-poetic items. Sigh… …or maybe something about the envorinment (ditto). No beards, though… the only countries desperate and… Read more »
🙁 i really liked diell, it my 2nd but i hope she other good song
I think that this is the right choice
Ukraine last year also had like three attempts to change some parts their song and it did successfully in the grand finals, though. It does seem weird for a country to say if they are planning to change the lyrics to English and then replacing the song per se ino a new one. Seems that the people behind Elhaida’s song aren’t strongly confident with their entry to begin with.
@YoungsterJoey
5) Include the word “Time” in your song title.
@youngsterjoey laughed my ass of.
I agree with Edward Nygma…. just ridiculous.. she won’t get my vote anyways… journalists have been writing about her entrance for… Nothing. she attempted to win with that song, she did and now she should sing it as well.. :/
I’m glad with the decision taken to drop their song and compete with another one instead hopefully much better one..
I had ALBANIA at the bottom of my personal ranking list from the 16 selected entries so far {almost last..! 🙁 } and i worried 4 the real chances of Elhaida qualifying to the grand final..
Yes….With that voice of hers she definitely deserves a better song..
I’m not judging them more than I would anyone else. And while I know this is not against the rules, I’m saying it should be. I am really tired of all this changes. Tiny tune adjustments or shortening songs over 3 minutes is one thing, but translating or changing the song is another and I don’t like the frequency of artists doing that. People voted for the artist, the tune, the lyrics – the whole package.
Don’t blame and judge Elhaida and Team Albania for this decision. Remember that this is the way Belarus has done almost every year and after their change of entry nobody has questened their acting like that. Don’t make a storm in a water glass. I’m personally ok with a new song – and I really don’t understand the anger of those who get upset. When it’s not against the rule to do like this and the new song is released before the deadline, I think everybody must just accept it. Calm down, please.
Remember last year? How many Wiwiblogs voters liked Iceland and how many liked Israel? And the results were completely different.
I love Diell, but even besides that, I feel this is to a degree cheeting. The song won the nationals. She is renouncing the trust people gave her. I feel like all this translating and revamping shpuld be against the rules once the song is declared national representative . And this is even more than that.
I can only hope the new song will be even better.
Elhaida’s options:
1) Song about overcoming obstacles/warrior
2) Get a male singer, add to growing list of male/female duos at ESC 2015
3) Get a swedish composer/team.
4) Grow a beard (LOL, Im sorry, i can’t help but giggle when someone suggests this).
I agree that I wasn’t too fond of Diell but imagine if you were in her shoes now with this. The composer withdrew the song, so now she has to change everything after preparing for two months. That is a lot of pressure. She has a great voice so I hope her new song will work in her favor.
But…wasn’t the national selection show about the SONG and not the singer? It seems like her manager doesn’t want to see her fail after winning the The Voice Italy and because her song is not liked by many at the moment…I feel like this might be a good decision for Elhaida and her team’s point of view.
@Marcelo: Why yes, I did read the information in THIS article, which said that both she and the author withdrew the song. If you’re mad at me for not reading what Elhaida wrote in her facebook post, you should understand that I can’t read Albanian or Italian, and I’m not going to trust Google Translate to do the guesswork for me.
Great decision! But keep her beautiful voice in Albanian
New version of Time tomorrow 😀

I don’t like Diell nor her voice so I guess I’m not gonna like her new song either. I expect something similar to Amber’s song,we’ll see.
well, if it isn’t about empowerment and doesn’t have ‘Shine’ in the title I’m cool with it
I hope it’ll either be in Albanian or Italian–I kind of liked ‘Diell.’ At first it may have seemed really boring, but it did have a nice 90’s-Balkan ballad sound to it once one listened to it 20 or so times.
Awkward since the Eurovision Youtube already has the song video up lol
Given that they toyed with the idea of sending an English version of “Diell” to Vienna, I’m not at all surprised. They did a very piss-poor job at wordplay in creating an English version of “Zemërimi I Një Natë” (“One Night’s Anger”) for Hersiana Matmuja, and also tweaked the music to make it more pop-friendly (also ill-advised); and instead of a potential top-10 (even top-15) finish, she didn’t even qualify for the final.
They’ve got 3 weeks to give Elhaida a new song, before the deadline comes and goes.
This is not fair to the other contestants in the national final…they Albanians chose a song/singer….not they have don’t know what they are going to get…what if it’s worse!?!
This wasn’t a decision made by Elhaida, the song author didn’t want her to perform the song for whatever reasons and she seems very upset over it. Honestly, I’m not too big a fan of “Diell” so hopefully there’ll be a silver lining to this all and her new song will be amazing.
Albania was last in oddschecker. I think that it is not comfortable for the singer or the author.
SMH… people here are writing stuff along the lines of: “First see what the reactions are on internet, and if they are bad chance [sic] the song” (Yes, because tiny preliminary reactions at this blog or any other by any chance will make a country shit in their pants and “chance” a song…) and “It’s the mark of good singers to choose the songs which best suit them.” (no, ma’am, not the case that SHE withdrew the song, and did you take the trouble to read the information above?) What the hell?! I believe we should all be worrying over… Read more »
Great decision. This song was just boring to me, just to show off her vocals. I hope the new song will be better ^^
Isn’t this a form of cheating? First see what the reactions are on internet, and if they are bad chance the song… I know it’s not the case with this, but still think it’s unfair. Especially when the public in Albania chose ‘Diell’ to represent them.
Yes! I’m one of those who think she has an amazing voice, but the song wasn’t that good. If she comes up with a better song then Albania can have a great chance to get out of its semifinal.
Yeah Diell was not good so I’m very pleased since with someone like Elhaida the potential for Albania to do well skyrockets.
I had faith in the song once revamped but it would have taken A LOT of work.
The question now is can she pull out a better song in time?
This is a very good professional decision. The song was all over the place, and it sounded like she was having trouble with it live, despite how talented of a vocalist she is. It’s the mark of good singers to choose the songs which best suit them.
