After Australia’s participation was announced, wiwibloggers Chris, Josh and William got together and discussed some potential artists to represent the land down under at their Eurovision debut in Vienna. A hot favourite with all y’all in our current poll, as well as our poll in 2014, is 2012 X Factor Australia winner, Samantha Jade. She has been knocked back, pulled herself up, walked through fire and sweet-talked her way into Australia’s heart.

SAMANTHA JADE? SHE SOUNDS FAMILIAR?

To people outside of Australia, Samantha Jade may be new. In 2004, she signed to Jive Records in the US and in 2006 recorded the title track for the first ‘Step Up‘ movie. The following year, Samantha released her next single ‘Turn Around’. The song reached the Top 100 in Australia but failed to chart in the US, so Samantha was subsequently dropped from Jive. Sad face.

X FACTOR AUSTRALIA 2012

After being dropped from Jive, Samantha Jade moved back to Australia and worked in her father’s mining factory. That was until she decided to audition for the X Factor Australia in 2012. Samantha saw this as her last chance to get the music career she always dreamed of. And boy, did she make an impression! Her rendition of The Script’s ‘Breakeven’ had the judges in tears, particularly Guy Sebastian, who had an established working relationship with Samantha before the show.

Samantha Jade slayed the competition, going on to win the entire season of The X Factor Australia in 2012, beating out stiff competition including Nathaniel Willemse, The Collective and Bella Ferraro. YES MAMA!

SWEET TALKING HER WAY TO THE TOP

After winning the X Factor Australia, Samantha launched her winner’s single ‘What You’ve Done To Me’ and her self titled debut album. The single debuted at number 1 immediately after the finale, and went 3x Platinum and was the 74th highest selling single in Australia in 2012. Her album saw similar success, reaching number 3 on the albums chart, going Gold in the first week.

After the success of ‘What You’ve Done To Me’, Samantha followed her success with wiwibloggs’ favourite ‘Firestarter’. This song is our JAM! Samantha Jade looks sexy and fierce, and a lot of people worldwide thought the same: she won the ARIA Award for Best Music Video and was nominated for 5 World Music Awards! The song reached number 9 in Australia and went Platinum.

The next three singles ‘Soldier’, ‘UP!’ and ‘Sweet Talk’ didn’t see as much success in the charts as we’d like. They reached number 17, 18 and 38 respectively. She has also recently starred in a really cringe-worthy commercial for Australian grocery-giant ‘Woolworths’. It features a parody of Jackson 5’s ‘Rockin’ Robin’ with two animated birds, because their prices are “cheap cheap”. Ugh.

Eurovision 2015 may be just what Samantha Jade needs to catapult her back into the spotlight! Can you imagine it? A fierce electro-pop/dance track. Sexy outfit. Hot backup dancers. YAAASSS!

Dami I’m for 2016. Dami ticks all of the boxes of amazing talent, amazing voice, beauty stage presence.
Samantha jade is lovely, but she does not wow me like Dami I’m does.
We need to send our freshest talent not some has been.
Dami I’m would WOW them literally.
And to those whom think that 2012 was the best year, it was Dami I’m that received 60% of the vote that year, that has never happened in history of the program. Also 2013 was the most watched in the history of xfactor.

Matt I wasn’t nessacarily talking about you writing Samantha Jade off which is wy I separated my note to you and my general view. But there are definitely a few people that seem to be. I do think Dami Im would be a great choice for Eurovision she is also in my top 5 but this is the page about Samantha Jade and outside of Her fan base people may just not be aware of how much she has grown since as a performer since X factor. Now I really would like to stick to this just being about Samantha… Read more »

Mina, No one is saying Samantha isn’t a chance, although various sites have different Artists as Favourites, if you look at WiwiBloggs Poll, Dami is the clear Favourite , whereas if you look at William Hill (Bookies), Guy Sebastian is the clear Favourite with Jess Mauboy 2nd Fav followed by Dami & Samantha…..I agree with you about having the right song written for whoever represents Australia, I also believe Dami is the only Artist who can pull off any Song, don’t know if you watched her on Xfactor where she literally made the Original songs from Miley Cyrus, Foo Fighters,… Read more »

Matt Very well about the ratings according to Wikipedia you were correct I’ll give you that one. However the 2012 was still the best season of the series I believe but to each there own. However if everyone doesn’t agree that the last season was very underwhelming I don’t think I can true your judgement On a general note I do think that there are a lot of fans of a certain artist that are really underestimating Samantha Jade’s vocal ability and stage presences because she is the kind of performer that really stands out so with an amazing song… Read more »

Mina,
Again you are wrong & if you click on the following link & check (Ratings) , it will give you the Ratings of XFactor since it’s inception. You will notice 2013 the Live Decider & Winners announcement broke previous records & in the case of Dami, she had to fight for the teeny votes that were voting for Jai & female votes from Taylor….in the end Dami won by a winning 60% vote which again has never happened. Don’t get me wrong, I like Sammy although I’m just correcting you & other peoples messages as it’s misleading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X_Factor_%28Australian_TV_series%29

I really would love to see Samantha Jade in Eurovision and BTW some people seemed misinformed but it was the 2012 season of the X factor that actually had the highest ratings the season Samantha Jade won. That season of the X Factor is arguable the best season of then series because it had the most amount of diversity and talent from the contestants from any other season before or after from Australia and Samantha Jade was definitely the dark horse of it all and got the win in the end, something I think she could pull off at eurovision… Read more »

Johnny are you Delusional???? Which year did Xfactor Smash viewing records? 2013
Which Artist in Australia & arguably the World has the most diverse, culturally mixed group of Fans?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRHyzIO7y4w
your message holds no weight as it’s false..

Not the Dami Im’s fans spamming the comments. Girlsbye. Your fav will not be chosen. You need more than a voice to win a conpetition like eurovision. Dami is at the top of this website’s poll because her fans are voting for her but in the top 50 odds, Samantha is the top favorite which means the general public (women, men, old or young) thinks she’s the best fit. Dami wasn’t even in the top 50. Samantha can reach every demographic’s vote while for Dami, it’s just about her small fanbase.

Love Sammy although I doubt she’s Eurovision material. I was at the Carols in Domain performance in Sydney & hadn’t heard of Dami before that night…..WOW…This girl is amazing Live…Sammy is good too although you tend to wonder if she’s only good in the Studio?

Eurovision is the perfect platform for Dami to launch & show the World her unmatched Talents. Debating or arguing who should represent Australia is useless when you watch & hear Dami perform…Every performance is breathtaking, Epic & spectacular….

Samantha jade is good. She can work the stage, she can dance, and she has a really beautiful 90’s era voice. But I think for Eurovision, Dami Im is still the best option among the bunch. She captivates her audience through her voice and her stage presence is there.

Dami is sooooooo overrated. Samantha is so understated and equally talented. She could do equally well for mine.

Sammy is only suited to Pop which Eurovision does not favour. She was also shown out at the Carols performance where she was a nervous wreck. Her diction, breathing & vocal dynamics was not that of a professional singer. I suppose it’s hard for any Artist to come out & perform in front of 100, 000 people after watching Dami blow the audience away with her rendition of “O Holy Night” which was trending on Twitter…..If Australia want’s a Winner at Eurovision, Dami is the most obvious choice.

If Eurovision was a Beauty pageant then send Sammy, for Lovers of quality Music , World Class Vocals & an Artist that can sing any genre or style yet captivate a Live audience & viewers alike, Dami has Eurovision written all over her. She is a hidden Gem in World Music & it’s about time the masses hear her unique & masterful talents.

This woman has a Kylie vibe to her…the next best thing for Oz instead of Kylie, I suppose!

I do actually like her though! She can pull off a fierce look with Firestarter and then get all cute & girly with Sweet Talk. I wonder which concept she’ll go for at Eurovision?

Definitely a much better choice than Dami or anybody else who’s ever been on the Aus X Factor. Would love to see her go!

Bookies know they won’t have a chance with Kylie so might as well push for Samantha instead xD

At first glance, I thought the top first picture was Alyssa Edwards. I like Samantha, but I would much prefer to see Dami Im in Vienna.

When I first heard Firestarter I thought it had a Eurovision vibe but I still feel Dami Im is our best bet.
